MyNokiaBlog.com in Technorati’s top 100 Gadget Blogs

October 30, 2010 3 comments

Here’s something odd and most definitely a short term fluke thing. On technorati – huge search engine for blogs which categorizes and ranks blogs has put mynokiablog.com in the top 100 gadgets. I don’t really understand what these ranking means. But to be in the top 100 of anyone’s gadget blog list, be it technorati or any random person (and even if for a temporary blip) means a lot.

So it lists us as number 74. I don’t count the ranking as meaning anything as bigger sites like Gizmodo (which is number 2 overall, beating Engadget (6) which is top in the Gadget category) and TheNokiaBlog are lower down in the list. There’s obviously something wrong with how this thing is ranked.

Megablogs Gizmodo – based on the name and their general presence, why the heck is it all the way to 94? As much as Nokia fans who have known Gizmodo’s unrelenting hate for Nokia would love it – Gizmodo would be expected to be right next to Engadget (top 10 consist of Engadget, BGR, Slashgear, Mashable, gigaOM, Tech Crunch, Apple Insider, Android Phone Fans, Unwired View and T-MoNews)

I suspect this temporary blip is due to alex68’s post on the new browser/homescreen which has been linked back by quite a few sites surprisingly (even GSM Arena).

Unfortunately that video (as positive as it was) was pulled from our youtube account for violating Nokia Corporation’s copyright. Apologies Nokia – thought it was something that would help push confidence into the current ratty browser by giving users something to look forward to. Hey there’s the New Native Symbian Opera Mini 5.1 now whilst we wait?

Major kudos to you guys too on your tips [tips@mynokiablog.com/mynokiablog.com/tips] your news and Nokia findings are really helping mynokiablog.com grow (thanks to MNB crew too!). We’ll post views for October on Nov 1 which has been totally down to you guys. Thanks! [apologies if we miss any – we try to get through as many of them as possible!]

MyNokiaBlog reaches the 3 million mark :D Thanks all!

October 1, 2010 46 comments

Just a little update: in the early hours of this morning, mynokiablog.com has ticked over 3 million blog views 🙂

We got here much sooner than expected. Whilst absent in the Philippines, thanks to the team of Andre, John, Marc, Sergejs, Andy and Llaadd we maintained views and growth per month (even if just by a little bit). Just last month of September we somehow managed 367,680, hitting over 21k in one day about a week ago (update – thanks to you guys, today is the new busiest day – over 23k! :D)

A huge part of this was due to you guys sending in your awesome find to either tips@mynokiablog.com or mynokiablog.com/tips. It helps immensely that we can share your brilliant Nokia findings, stories, news as well as our own. (Though apologies if we can’t get to them all too). Thanks also to those who share our posts on other sites – sending to larger blogs for tips, even just writing it in their comment section or if you blog, blogging it your self :). (btw, we got on Anti Nok engadget hah – though traffic wise, the response has been surprisingly bigger than engadget).

Huge thanks as always to our readers, RSS/email subscribers, video watchers and all you guys who join in on the comments section – the response and support has been very humbling, especially for a small niche blog.

Anyway, I must dash – have lectures to go to.

On behalf (and to) the MyNokiaBlog.com team,

Thank You very much!!!

– Jay 😀

MyNokiaBlog.com on Engadget!

September 4, 2010 19 comments

My stay in the Philippines is almost over. I’ll be in Sunny, sunny Wales on Tuesday (then London for Nokia World, then Manchester for another round of Uni). Anywhoo, whilst being here, I haven’t been able to blog as much but the awesome MNB team and our readers with your amazing tips have kept the MyNokiaBlog.com going.

Just read a tweet from @SimonLR that we were on engadget. Lo and behold, doubting Simon, there we were. Thanks to Jim for submitting us a tip (you can do so at tips@mynokiablog.com or at mynokiablog.com/tips/ 😀) that post about MeeGo screenshots subsequently hit of all places, Engadget. Yay!

Hmm…I haven’t even finished packing and will be going Tomorrow (Monday, Philippine time).

Oh in case you haven’t heard (no time to make a separate post sorry), Mr James Burland of Nokia Creative has relaunched his photo awards – from the infamous N95 to now the digicam killer that is the Nokia N8. Mr B, whilst a mac fan is also a connoisseur of Mobile Art, particularly of Nokia’s attempts, through photography or video.

MyNokiaBlog reaches 2 Million views with 300,000 in June! Thank you for reading our blog!

July 1, 2010 33 comments

MyNokiaBlog HQ Party - haha, no, this is a flickr Upload by Linked In Crew

I can’t believe we’ve reached the 2 million mark (just ticked over early this morning), with a MyNokiaBlog record of 300,000 views in June. Those are some big milestones for us.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thanks for visiting mynokiablog.com, reading our posts (putting up with the barrage of N8 stuff :p), RTing our tweets, linking to our posts, voting in our polls and even taking part in our comments section.

We really appreciate the support! We only just went over 200,000 in May and that was one huge fluke! No way did I think we’d match May let alone ever reach 300,000. Big thanks to Nokia (thanks to our news sources!)  for making it much easier to write about you guys (and in a positive light too, not just annoyed rants). That means we’re officially in Alexa’s top 100,000. Despite Nokia’s missing presence in the US, our largest audience by region are Americans. Apparently, 19% of people are our regular audience, but make up 43% of the traffic; 81% of passers by make up 54% and <1% of mynokiablog “addicts” (qc’s wording) comprises 3%. So thanks all!

Whether some of that is unintentional with the “leaks” (RM-626 is sooo slim!) or intentional with N8 stuff, Maemo tutorials and MeeGo news it has been awesome to write about Nokia. ^_^

News for June is that we have three new writers who have already made huge contributions already to mynokiablog.com (Thanks guys!)

  • Andy Harsent
  • John Wigand-Forson
  • Andre Forbes

That’s on top of mynokiablog.com writers:

  • Sergejs Cuhrajs
  • Hiren Lad
  • James Burland (no direct post yet, but N8 HD videos might entice him.  ^_^)

Christian Haslam, the first co-author at mynokiablog will also be returning soon too.  Good Times.

At the end of July, I’m gonna be heading over to the Philippines to visit family. I’ll be back by the 6th September (ouch, missing N8 August release haha) but I’ll try to keep posting (only problem is getting mobile internet as I’m not going to be home a lot and mobile internet seems impossible to find in the Philippines :S)

As from suggestions yesterday, if you have any tips or article suggestions you’d like us to cover, email us at tips@mynokiablog.com (we’re still working out how to get google to auto-forward to more than one writer)

MyNokiaBlog.com hits over 200,000 in May. Thanks for checking us out! :)

June 1, 2010 10 comments

Hey guys,

I just wanted to update that during May we reached 228,642 views. That’s not really a big number relatively, but it’s a huge mile stone for us, especially considering just March 2009 we were at 6k.

Many thank yous need to be given out on behalf of mynokiablog.com.

Light drawing with N900 back in February to say thanks when we reached 1 million views and won a Golden Retrievo Award.

Big thanks to Llaadd and Sergejs for their fantastic contributions to mynokiablog.com, their posts are always extremely popular (whilst also helping me focus during exams and busy uni periods). Both have their own blogs too that you should check out:thetekblogger and Phonespot

Huge respect to the folks over at WOMWorldNokia who have supported mynokiablog.com by bringing us to some really awesome events, trialling out new devices and networking with other people in the mobile industry. In fact, due to the recent Open Mobile Summit, we briefly surfed Alexa’s top 100,00 for the one month category(Alexa’s accuracy is questionable, and I think reporting us higher than it should be, but it’s flattering nonetheless) and managed to get a lot of chatter about the spotted production level Nokia N8, EA 3D games trailer, NFS and SIMS 3 on real N8 And MeeGo Computers Q&A with Alberto Torres

Thank you of course to our post sources. Tons of appreciation goes out to those linking back to our posts in their blogs and forums.

Thanks to those following me at @jaymontano and RT our posts. (We haven’t mentioned it before but we also have a separate @mynokiablog account that tweets our new posts as soon as we click publish)

Finally, massive thanks to you for coming to read this random and extremely informal blog, whether a subscriber on youtube, email notifications, our RSS feeds or accidentally stumbling here after a search query.

Aims for near future:

This month, I’m looking to get mynokiablog.com self hosted. i.e. not on wordpress.com.

The main reason for this now is to allow us to have greater control of what’s on the blog and prevent us from randomly getting suspended by wordpress. (I’ve put it off so long due to being busy at Uni and because I feared somehow accidentally deleting mynokiablog – ah….teh nOoB)

An additional feature of self hosting is wider range of (more professional?different?) looking themes. I’ll be hunting around for some themes, but I’d love to know any suggestions you might have. At the moment, I’m looking for similar design, just with more share features and a more streamlined look.

We’ll also be trying to come up with some sort of logo as we haven’t got one of those. Well we do but it’s an MS paint job that looks to have been created by a 3 year old. (It’s supposed to be a M N B and for some odd reason, there’s a fox inside.)

As part of the change from wordpress.com we will need to put ads/affiliate links  to support the monthly running costs. The previous running costs have been minimal so far and I don’t mind paying it as I really enjoy this blogging malarcky. But with self hosting, it might be cool to avoid another monthly bill if possible. 🙂 Who knows, I might even get a cup of coffee out of it ^_^

If there is sufficient revenue, I’ll be looking to run mini competitions and whatnot with prizes out of the revenue you helped bring by coming to this mynokiablog.com.

Finally, we’re also looking for some new recruits to join mynokiablog team.  If  you’re interested in writing for mynokiablog.com, please contact jay@]mynokiablog.com

Thanks again all! 🙂

MyNokiaBlog Weekly Post Roundup (Ep 16) Have you heard of the new Nokia N8?

May 2, 2010 2 comments

Just wanted to say thanks for dropping by on mynokiablog.com, reading our posts, retweeting our stories and even finding our posts good enough to track back to (thanks also to our sources!). This week was our busiest week ever, in terms of posting and traffic with over 60,000 views. One of our posts 8 Reasons to Love the Nokia N8 got over 4000 views on its first day and helped reach a new personal best that day.

Apart from Llaadd’s awesome C2 finding and a couple of N900 videos, everything this week was all about the Nokia N8. Starting with the initial drama for dear Eldar (with another midweek Eldar blip), then the official launch and somewhat of a huge turn around in opinion (considering the disappointment from the leaks/and scathing “previews), with much excitement for Nokia’s newest Nseries.

Without further ado here are this week’s post in case you missed anything 🙂

MyNokiaBlog Weekly Post Roundup (EP 15) MyNokiaBlog suspended on WordPress; X6, 5800 Firmware and Brain Party

April 25, 2010 2 comments

We got suspended from wordpress.com today. I don’t know why, (I hope it had nothing to do with the previous post cus I’m not too keen on that phone design!) haha. It’s not btw. WordPress support says it was a mistake.

Everything should be backup except the RSS might have gone a little screwy.

Thanks for the support over twitter – apologies for the drama too.

It might have been cooler had we been suspended for more than half an hour at least (as no one even noticed it had gone) but very pleased that wordpress staff managed to sort this out fairly quick.

Anyway, here are this week’s MyNokiaBlog postings from llaadd and I.

MyNokiaBlog Weekly Post Roundup (Ep 14). New C3, C6, E5; fMMS N900 walkthrough and Interview with Antti Kujala

April 18, 2010 1 comment

This week was surprisingly packed on MyNokiaBlog (especially considering the previous week). Llaadd brought us a whopping great walkthrough video of an updated fMMS for your Nokia N900 as well as news of a minor update for Ovi Maps.

Nokia’s virtual event kicked off the week, launching the QWERTY phones for the masses: Nokia C3, C6 and E5. Other Direct Nokia highlights include MyNokiaBlog’s interview with Nokia’s Antti Kujala.

On the MeeGo front, we saw that several big name companies are backing the Intel-Nokia project. Furthermore, we saw MeeGo running on a range of devices and saw a glimpse of MeeGo on Mobile (device and screenshots)

We also ran a poll this week, asking if you agreed with mobile analyst Tomi A Honen that Ovi Store would beat Apple App Store and Android Market. Whilst Nokia were winning for the first 100 votes, as it got picked up on Maemo.org there was sufficient backlash to push “No” as the winning answer (at about 60% as it stands).
