Toshl Expenses Tracker made entirely in Qt – Now available for Symbian^3 on Ovi Store (#N8 #C7) Manage your finances with ease!

December 12, 2010 16 comments

Here’s a neat little app we first encountered with the Nokia N900 and Maemo 5.

  • It’s a very, very easy to use expenses tracker to help manage your finances. At this time of the year, with the plastic and cash flying at Christmas, this app is a must have download to keep an eye on your money!
  • It’s available now (Symbian^3) for FREE on the Ovi Store.
  • It’s entirely made in Qt which the makers have said Nokia people were extremely helpful with. Overall, thumbs up for Qt especially over previous alternatives. More on this at the end of post.
  • I’ve tried it on the N8 and it’s a great app (more on this below).

This doesn’t just sit on your phone. You can sync your data from your other phones with the PRO account service which not only means you can monitor your data from any phone or PC but you’ll also get analysis graphs of your expenditure to give a visualisation and new perspective of your spending.

Thanks to Matic Bitenc we have a discount code for the first 20 people that gives you 50% off the one year service.

Video: TheTrainLine.com App for Symbian demoed on Nokia N8. Buy train tickets and check train times with ease!

December 6, 2010 11 comments

Back in October we saw thetrainline.com advertising their application using the Nokia N8.

This app has been available for download from Ovi Store for a few days now and let me tell you that it’s awesome!

It is a really slick useful application for UK train travellers. You can check train times as well as buy train tickets but it goes so much further in making a very smooth and visually appealing interface to interact with. Over checking the browser version, this is leaps and bounds in speed and usability since it’s mobile (thumb input) focused and also uses very little data (no constantly clicking a new page).

We’ve got a video demo below as well as screenshots and more details about this great app!)

  • Swipe left/right to navigate between timeline, replies, DMs etc
  • Big finger friendly buttons when tapping tweets
  • Search within app
  • Tag links/search
  • Cute little bird animations during search load (and initial twitter connection)
  • Profile viewer
  • Trending topics viewer

It’s available to download for FREE for S60 and Symbian^3 from the Ovi Store.

Video: Classic Snake II on the Nokia N8 (for Symbian^3 and S60 5th) at Ovi Store

November 22, 2010 1 comment

The World’s most popular phone game SNAKE is available for download at the Ovi Store. This isn’t an official Nokia one but it sure as heck is a lot of fun, especially as it looks like the original 3310 version, complete with the pixelated snake and green-tone black and white LCD. I’ve only tried on N8 but Ovi Store says it will work for S60 5th too.

  • Works really well with touch (not sure if it will accept keys, e.g. N97). Press the screen in the direction you want the snake to move. With touch it’ll take some getting used to to get those super quick snake U-turns.
  • Move the snake in the direction of the food. Avoid hitting yourself or obstacles. Can pass through one side of screen from other (Snake II)
  • You can set the speed of the snake from 1 (very slow) to 10 (very fast).
  • Works in portrait
  • As usual as you progress, you’ll unlock different levels (20 in total) with obstacles in the way
  • You can even switch the appearance of the snake to resemble

Video: Air Hockey Game demoed on Nokia N8 for S^3 and 5th Ed Free at Ovi Store

November 20, 2010 2 comments

Air Hockey. You versus the phone as you try and score a goal with the virtual air lifted puck. First to 5 wins and each round goes to a higher level with slightly harder opponents.

It’s really enjoyable (I love Air Hockey at arcades!) and great for those short distractions. It’s well worth a download.

The only things I’d like to see is the option for 2 player mode with multitouch support of course (though that would rule out S60 5th users).

Oh it’s meant to be played in portrait but was recorded in landscape.

You’ve got two price points with Air Hockey. An Advert-supported FREE game or £3.00 (variable by country) ad-free.

Above was the ad-supported version and you’ll note the presence of adverts (which you can skip or click to open an advert page). You’ll also need to have an internet connection. You don’t have to view the ads, just press skip.

DOWNLOAD FROM THE OVI STORE:

BTW for comparison here’s a paid version demoed on 5530 by TheBossAkib.

Note that you get cheers or awws depending on scoring or letting a goal in. It also looks a little faster here but part of that was due to my bad cam and video conversion (E.G. look at the image trail of my finger)

Video: Introducing the new Wellness Diary beta (Nokia Beta Labs) Demoed on the Nokia N8

November 10, 2010 6 comments

Lose weight, eat smart, exercise more or change our habits for better balance? Erm, yes please.

Wellness diary makes it easy to set goals, monitor progress and if you wish share achievements with others.

I had a seminar at Uni on Monday on the exact same thing (principles of being Med Students/Doctors). It was really useful to know about setting clear, specific goals with a set deadline instead of woolly, vague ones that have an endless due date that in combination makes it more prone to that task/goal being ignored.

A diary you might not always have with you but a phone most likely.

“Monitoring progress is easy with automatic functions and reminders, and you can see your progress instantly via graphs. In the near future you can also share it with your friends via social networks”.

Get professional coaching

If you’d like coaching or expert advice, or feedback on your progress, we are happy to tell you that you’ll be able to use Wellness Diary with a variety of professional third party services in the near future. These will be wellness services like general health coaching, smoking cessation, personal training, or nutritionist support. We are currently in discussions with several partners.

In this Beta phase we’re already offering one third party Wellness service, Duodecim Electronic Health Examination and Coaching. To start using it, just click on star.duodecim.fi and fill in the your health status to get started. Duodecim’s service is also in a testing phase and is offered as a Beta service.

If your company is interested in mobilizing your existing wellness related on-line service, please contact us via e-mail at wellnessdiary.marketing@nokia.com for more information.

To download, head on over to Nokia Beta Labs.
