Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2009 1 comment

Happy Halloween All! Just finished up with the face paint – it’s a cat of some sort. Not really “scary”. The only scary thing is that is actually my real hair. Also, we’ll have to see the adverse effects of using oil paints instead of just face paints (I left the red face paint at home).

If you’ve got a much scarier picture of you,  you could use that to win yourself a Nokia N97. Check out: [Via darlamack]

I think there are other Nokia related halloween stuffs, but I’m dizzy from the oil paint fumes and can’t remember where it is.

Happy Halloween!

Competition: Win a 1 year’s free turn by turn licence to Ovi Maps!

September 28, 2009 2 comments

I found this via @MickyFin (originally from @chansearrington)

How to get 1 year’s free turn by turn licence on Ovi Maps.

5 Steps to get your 1 year’s Ovi Maps turn by turn licence

  1. Open up Ovi Maps 3.0 on your Nokia phone.
  2. Find a landmark – either do this via search or if you know a landmark, just scroll to it.
  3. Go to 3D View. Go to Options>Tools>Map 3D
  4. Frame the 3D landmark and take a screenshot. To frame, just scroll around and zoom in/out. To take a screenshot, go to Options>Tools>Take a screenshot
  5. Send via email to with the title of your subject being the name of your landmark. If you’ve got email set up on your Nokia device, e.g. Nokia Messaging, it is extremely easy to send via email. Find your screenshot, e.g. go to Photos>Downloads, select the screenshot and send via Nokia Messaging to with the title of the subject being the name of the landmark

HURRY, HURRY, HURRY! The first 100 unique landmarks gets a free 1 year’s turn-by-turn licence to Ovi Maps. There’s a few licences left!

You’ll get an auto reply email confirming your entry and if you’re lucky, you’ll get another email back soon saying you’ve won!

Here’s my entrant: Millennium Stadium. 2 minutes later, I got my licence code, and now I’ve got nearly the full potential of Ovi Maps in use (I say nearly, as I’m sure there’s a lot more to get out of it).

Tap an area and either select drive to/walk to and it’ll give you driving/walking directions from your current position. It’s blissfully easy.

Millennium Stadium

BTW, does anyone know how t o make Ovi Maps 3.0 into Imperial, i.e. give distance in Miles? I’ve changed settings to imperial but it still shows details in metric.

Update: This competition is already finished.

100 3D Landmarks, 6 copies each = collage time!

The World according to Ovi Maps 3.0

32785550The full size pic (5000×2914 @ 3.29MB) is a must to check out.

Can you see your entry? What landmark did you submit?Quick glance I can see mine at Alaska and Southern China ^_^.

Win a copy of SmartMovie! 5 SmartMovie licences to give away – DivX/Xvid/AVI/FLV/MP4/3GP player for your S60 phone

August 23, 2009 65 comments

The creators of SmartMovie, Lonely Cat Games, are giving away 5 licences for the video application SmartMovie (21.99EUR).

SmartMovie is an excellent video player, that allows you to play MP4V/FLV/3GP videos. It has a slick looking UI, with kinetic scrolling, extensive video settings and shortcut keys.

For more details on SmartMovie check out the text/picture review and the video review .

Now onto the SmartMovie giveaway.  I’ve not done one of these licence giveaway things before so bear with me …

How to win?

In my video review of SmartMovie below, just name one movie/video title that was played back using SmartMovie on the Nokia N97.

How to Enter?

  1. There are two ways to enter. You can either leave your answer as a comment in this post, or email your answer to MyNokiaBlog[at] with the subject “SmartMovie”
  2. You can enter multiple times, but each time must be a different correct answer (the more films/video titles you can name that was played back on the N97 using SmartMovie in the video review, the more chance you have of winning.)
  3. 5 winners will be chosen by a random number generator from the correct entries until we have 5 individual winners.
  4. Your number will be defined by the order your comment/email arrives in my GMAIL inbox.
  5. The winners will be picked from correct entries received by 31st August, 3PM GMT and announced later that day.
  6. You’ll need to have a valid email address as I’ll contact the winners via email as asking for your IMEI
  7. Winners will be contacted with their licence code

Good Luck 🙂

Clue Number 5: Search For N…

June 2, 2009 132 comments

Thank you very much for following the journey with us to the Search For N…

I’ve been overwhelmed with how everyone’s been working together, helping each other out, sharing ideas,  hints (haha and answers). But now that may change to looking after number one as today marks the arrival of the 5th and final clue!

You get this clue (provided you’ve also got the others) and you’ll be given the location of where a Nokia N97 has been hidden!

The clue hasn’t been posted yet [08:00 GMT], but watch this space. I’m writing this up early as I can envision something going wrong with my internet connection at the most inappropriate of moments. I’ll just stick in the final clue when it arrives.

The 5th clue is coming and I’ll update this post accordingly.

So good luck guys! Remember to go to:

Plus, check out the previous clues as you will need all five, particularly number three 😉

If you’re outside the UK and in any of the following countries you too can join the Search for N…country

Click on the blog links after you’ve made your selection to start your Search For N…

(Note: There’s also another UK search for the N for lucky British residents, you get to have a second pop at winning a Nokia N97!)

Third Clue for the Search For N…

Note: Clue three is a 4-part collaborative clue, i.e. has part one of the four parts required to work out the clue. You have to find part two, three and four in order to work out the third clue.

I’ll update this post with the other parts when I find them:

Thanks to those who’ve located the last part of the clue. Here’s all four of them, slightly slowed down.

There appears to be a common theme in all parts of the clues. 🙂

When you think you’ve worked out Clue 3, go to: to check your answer, and hopefully get your third green tick.

Only two more clues to go, so keep an eye out for them, as well as the previous two clues that have already passed. Solving them all may get your hands on a Nokia N97!

Clue Number 1: Search For N…

May 26, 2009 8 comments

Last Thursday, I went to London for an interesting trip to the Cinema, and was told that Nokia have scattered 7 “N’s” around the UK.  Over the next few days, clues will be provided to search  for Ns. The first of these has just arrived at my door.

My housemate just gave me a random package. It had no address. Just my name.

Here’s the “unboxing” video of the first clue to search for N… :

A random package with just my name

Inside the package was this book

Flicking through the pages I found this:

Here’s the page the clue was on:

Here’s the site if you follow the link on the card:

This is where you have to post your clue once you have worked it out.

7 N97s scattered across the UK! Well - England and Wales anyway according to this map :p

From, they may have received the first riddle in which to fill in the first box…

While a gentle caress is likely to please
Haptic and Tactile are two types of these
The aluminium case we like very much
Making the N97 a pleasure to _ _ _ _ _

Update – ignore this – it seems this is an entirely different search for N

For those Outside the UK, you too can search for the N and win yourself a Nokia N97:

Here’s the first post when three other UK bloggers and I were told about the “search for the N..”.Who knows, there may be a hidden clue there too.
