My Dream Nokia #9: Nokia N7 WP7 Concept Nokia-Windows phone

December 28, 2010 16 comments

My Dream Nokia on cloud #9 is a Microsoft Windows Phone 7 powered Nokia smartphone. It’s a very Nokia design at the back is quite 6300 like no?

It features a flush screen (no obstruting bezel) with capactive buttons. I don’t know if the image has been warped, but the display appears 16:9, though a second picture included shows off the 16:10 480×800 screen.

Nothing else other than it’s supposedly magnesium alloy with 8MP camera and Dual LED flash.

There’s no name, other than being a Windows Phone 7 concept phone, and since there may not be a 7 in Nseries (due to 8 being the minimum) I’m just labelling it Nokia N7. Window Phone 7 aside, I like the design of the glossy front. I prefer capacitive buttons to ones you have to physically push but that’s just me.

I think it’s designed by the folks at http://www.mindsailors.com/ though I can’t find if they’ve put this concept phone up there.

My Dream Nokia #8: Nokia N9 MeeGo Phone Slider Concept with edge to edge display

December 17, 2010 10 comments

My Dream Nokia Number 8 comes by way of Jim who found these concept MeeGo Phone Photos on the MeeGo forum. They’re designed by a guy called “SuperHero” who is an old user of Linux, the Nokia n900 and a programmer.

It is titled Nokia N9. There are no details other than what can be observed from design.

I think they look pretty slick. There are 9 images in total, one in particular showing the slide out QWERTY which is somewhat curved in action like early Xperias from Sony Ericsson though looking much nicer.

The screen seems huge, with near edge to edge, borderless display.

My Dream Nokia #7 – Nokia N8-01 Touch and Play

December 10, 2010 7 comments

Dream Nokia #7 is sent in as a video by Iffan Morasilp from Thailand and is called the Nokia N8-01 Touch and Play.

  • 3.7″ Gorilla Glass display
  • 8MP Carl Zeiss
  • 1080p recording and playback
  • D-pad and gaming keys
  • HDMI
  • 4G
  • Dolby Digital Plus

It is N86 in design so I don’t know if they want a slide up keyboard. (UPDATE:intention is slim candybar)

This could also be our first Dream Nokia based on Symbian. Everything else thus far has been MeeGo (which btw, if you want Android/WP7/iOS that’s ok because it is just a “dream” :p)

Remind you of the recently leaked Nseries prototype?

My Dream Nokia #5: Nokia E10 MeeGo Phone-Tablet transformer with Foldable 6.5*4″ screen and solar panels #concept

November 17, 2010 5 comments

This was found at concept-phones by Jim which happily sits in the Dream Nokia/Designs category. This one is pure design (less about tech specs).

Practicalities aside, this concept E10 transforms into a pocket monster (not a pokemon). As in it’s pocketable at first but then becomes this  6.5*4.0 tablet through some folding actions. I don’t think you need major origami skills but it is a touch fiddly.

This shouldn’t be too far into the future given the rate of advancement of flexible screens. But is this something you’d be interested in?

The designer is Chris Wang. These renders and sketches are absolutely beautiful and I’d like to see some more of his work (not sure where to go though).

My Dream Nokia #3: Nokia N9-01 MeeGo Phone concept 12MP, CBD 4.1″ 1280x720x32, 64gb, Dual Core 1GHz

My Dream Nokia #3 – response to the “My Dream Nokia” idea from Alberto:

Thomas Boutroue sends in his Dream Nokia – the Nokia N9-01

“My dream’s nokia may be the N9-01 : a N900 in better (better hardware, alu casing, bigger screen, and MeeGo”

His dream specs are on the side but just to reiterate:

  • MeeGo 1.2
  • Dual Core 1GHz
  • 1GB RAM
  • 64GB Internal
  • Micro-SD Reader
  • Physical Keyboard
  • Spaced Keys
  • Sensitive Pad
  • No keys on the front
  • Hard keys for +/0 and camera
  • Face Cam 5MP
  • Rear Cam 12MP
  • Camera Lens Cover (Very, very important feature now realising what I’ve missed. So easy to wash out photos, especially with bright flash when there’s a smudge on the camera glass)
  • 4 LED Flash (ooh quadflash again? No one seems to be a fan of the Xenon. Then again, I do miss that spontaneous LED torch. But Not so much as blurry people pics :p)
  • Aluminium casing (Early N9 leak has that single aluminium macbook pro look)
  • CBD 4.1″ 1280X720X32 (Where’s the 32? I’ve always envisioned that the surrounding side border around the phone could form some touch input – no actual buttons needed. Or that around the screen are a few SEPARATE pixels that would truly make it borderless but still be functional in certain situations where you might need that border.)
  • LED Notification on the front (OH Real N9, you must have this like the N900. It’s unbelievably useful)
  • Resistive but multitouch (uh oh – controversial. Die Hard N900 fans would agree. Well this is Thomas’ own Dream Nokia)
  • Very Strong Front Surface
  • Dolby Surround. Jack 3.5 Audio Out
  • Wireless HDMI
  • Micro USB + HOST + OTG
  • 4000 mAh battery (AMEN! But I doubt we’ll ever get more than 1500mAh for any Nokia Phone given current size constraints from Nok)
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • WiFi N
  • LTE Support
  • 6.5×12.0x1.0cm

The good thing is, a lot of these specs (bar a few such as battery capacity) are actually physically possible right now.

Very early Nokia MeeGo UI worth posting. Even if it doesn’t improve from this I’d be impressed.

About “My Dream Nokia”

I’m sure you’ve dreamt up your PERFECT Nokia phone. What it would look like, what it would feel like, what features it would have. Why don’t you share it with the world? Or at least with other Nokia fans :D .

It could be your own photoshopped or rendered work (seriously, you don’t need mega skills in either, basic paint job is often enough to convey a concept) of your dream product.

SEND this in similarly to tips@mynokiablog.com with the title “My Dream Nokia” and perhaps the model number (and a little description, maybe a few specs in the message area? Though this bit not necessary).

Who knows, maybe an image might flutter over to Nokia and through whatever route end up being real.

My Dream Nokia #2: Nokia N10 MeeGo Phone Concept

November 11, 2010 14 comments

OK I didn’t think we’d get a response to the “My Dream Nokia” idea from Alberto so quickly. This comes by way of Peter Lackman – the Nokia N10. When I say N10 I can’t help but think Ben 10 (ah I’m so childish).

No details on specifications from the email but as you can see we have this:

  • gloriously huge space eating screen – hardly any wasting of any phone face. This might well be the future where pretty much all front area is screen – the borderless goal huh?
  • N10 sports the Nokia N8’s 12MP camera – no xenon but quad-LED-flash as seen in the X7 concept. Certainly be a pro-night video shooter.
  • There’s HDMI,
  • 4-row Tilt hinge QWERTY
  • Near Field Communication (as secretly found in the C7)
  • What OS is this? I don’t recall such MeeGo/S^4 (looking this or from iOS or Android (though I don’t keep up with all Android variants). I love the phone book landscape. Blergh it is MeeGo. Cheers Andre
  • Oh and cheers for Jim for reminder of the leaked Nokia MeeGo Phone UI video:
