Video: Installing MeeGo on the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t in less than 9 minutes

At the MeeGo Conference, we saw MeeGo boot up from several different devices via USB stick. Here we see Julien Fourgeaud’s shiny new IdeaPad booting up for the first time, getting rid of Windows 7 and unleashing MeeGo from the USB stick.

Though it’s simple enough, I hope end users will not have to do this to their netbooks and will get MeeGo as a choice for a good selection of netbooks.

Video: Unboxing of the MeeGo Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t

November 23, 2010 3 comments

Julien Fourgeaud, Former Nokia Senior Design Engineer, Road Map and Propositions at Symbian Foundation and now director of his own company,  LeCatalyst,  unboxes the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t which as one of the attendees at last week’s MeeGo Conference got absolutely FREE. It comes standard with Windows 7 but was immediately set up later for MeeGo (which Julien says took less than 9 minutes). The IdeaPad is a touch/netbook hybrid with a swivel multitouch LED screen. This particular model doesn’t appear to be one of the three models available from Lenovo as they all should have 2GB RAM but Julien says this only has 1GB. Moreover, despite the 1GB RAM, this is supplied with the 8 cell battery (reserved for the highest end S10). Processor should be the N470 then at 1.83GHz. This 8 cell battery is why it sticks out. It would be flush other wise with the 4-cell, though you do get 7-8h supposedly with the 8-cell.

Video: MeeGo Touch Hybrid netbook Lenovo IdeaPad hands on

November 20, 2010 2 comments

At the MeeGo conference this week (15-17th November) a winner was selected to get the MeeGo powered touch netbook hybrid – Lenovo’s IdeaPad. The name?

“EVERYONE”.

Yeah that’s right, everyone got one of these bad boys. Touch netbook with meego? Very, very nice. *So jealous!* Fold it up and you’ve got a tablet 🙂 Open it up and you’ve got a very functional netbook.

Below is a hands on demo with the IdeaPad by laurence101100.

It’s very, very quick. Laurence days he must admits – he likes it.

Results: iPad vs N900/Smartphone vs Booklet 3G/Netbook vs Laptop. Functionality wars – iPad loses. [iPad Rant]

January 29, 2010 3 comments

Yesterday we asked which was (or would be, since iPad is not available) the most productive device for you

  • iPad
  • N900/Smartphone
  • Booklet 3G/Netbook
  • Laptop

The results after one day so far:

Voting is still open.

[Apologies, this oddly became longer than expected. The post was originally just the above. Yes it’s not available yet, but this is just a rant of pure speculations based on the specifications]

41% of you crowned the laptop with 70 votes. Hot on its heels with 30% was smartphone (it was on par with laptop for a while) at 52 votes. Netbooks came out third at 21% with 36 votes and with at 8%, the iPad gets last place with an unlucky 13 votes.

Is it a surprise? iPad is not about functionality or practicality. Just like your girlfriend or wife might appreciate some Prada shoes or Gucci handbags, when she could have gotten cheaper, better value ones at the high street; the iPad is about brand. The Apple Factor.

When Jobs sold us the “Internet in your hands, eBook, videos, email, games” he didn’t sell you the iPad, he sold you the concept of a tablet. Right now we can see much better alternatives in terms of functionality Click to continue reading
