Video: Nokia C7 and Sally – Beautiful|Smart – Brighton Style

December 22, 2010 3 comments

In the fashion world, style is essential. Your mobile phone is a part of your ensemble. It needs to be chic elegant, smart and beautiful

There’s beautiful and then there’s smart; the Nokia C7 smartphone is both of these. In an age where every walk of life is using technology to help keep them connected to their friends & family, the Nokia C7 allows the style conscious user an accessory to match their social life and fashion sense.

In the following video Sally Glover (PA to Gresham Blake – a Savile Row trained tailor based in Brighton, UK) uses the latest mobile phone made by Nokia to enhance and support her fast paced lifestyle.

Video: TracyandMatt’s unboxing and “demo” of the Nokia C7

December 20, 2010 6 comments

If anything is to be unboxed, you can rely on unboxings.com to do it. And here they are – well it’s neither Tracy or Matt, it’s James – unboxing the Nokia C7.

So this is more of a “mainstream” unboxing, by mainstream I mean non-Nokia specific.

As you can read from the comments, it’s gloom and doom for you according to those highly acclaimed mobile analysts lurking the YouTube comments. But the video may be a large part to play in it.

Although it’s interesting to have a newbie playing about with a phone you’re demoing, when they get lost it makes it a million times worse (as opposed to someone who’s familiar teaching you how to work it).

e.g. Taking a Macro Photo with EDoF camera = FAIL. Trying to “TOUCH FOCUS” when there’s a shutter button and a shutter touch button = FAIL. It makes it look unresponsive and poorer in performance when you’re testing for features it does not have. e.g. I’d like to do some low light LED flash tests on the iPhone 3GS.

Video: Nokia C5-03 Hands on

December 8, 2010 9 comments

Here’s another rare hands on with the Nokia C5-03. Yes 03, not the C5-01 T9 candybar

  • Push and unlock on screen (like X3-02. No slider switch it appears)
  • Demo goes through several aspects of the phone:
    • Kinetic scrolling
    • Contacts
    • Music Player
    • Facebook app
    • Old style keyboards
    • Web Browser
    • Ovi Maps

Not bad. Like a slimmer, updated 5800. If you can spend more, there’s the option of a Symbian^3 CBD AMOLED C6-01.

Nokia Beta Labs now brings Nokia Software Updater (NSU) 3.0.223 Beta

December 4, 2010 3 comments

Hey all, it’s LLAADD again!

It looks like the people over at Nokia Beta Labs are really working hard to get us all some nice things before x-mas as they have just churned out yet another update and this time it is in the form of Nokia Software Updater (aka NSU) 3.0.223 beta which has minor updates from the previous NSU 3.0.156 back in October.

Before I tell you about the changes I just wanted to say keep up the good work to the people over at Nokia Beta Labs as this is the third thing this week and 7th thing in the last 2 weeks which is a jam packed fortnight in the world of software!

OK back to NSU, this update will help to fix some of those bugs with trying to update applications on the N8  as well as the way it helps you to recover your phone if the unfortunate happened and update failed. A full list of updates is below Read more…

Nokia C7-00 camera… not quite what you’d expect!

November 29, 2010 18 comments

Due to popular (kind of) demand, I’ve conducted a short yet conclusive test on the 8 Mpix camera capabilities of the Nokia C7-00. Similar fixed-focus or EDoF  (Extended Depth of Field ) camera modules are also used in a pair of other Symbian^3 based Nokia smartphones like the C6-01 and the upcoming E7, so I think it’s safe to draw some parallels out of the results of this test.

To see how it goes, I’ve pitted the C7-00 against a seemingly run of the mill, average performing by today’s standards, 5 Mpix auto-focus camera in the Nokia N900. I like having my camera tests as varied with different phone models as possible, so in some shots I’ve also allowed HTC Desire to bring an outlandish flavor into the test. So let’s get going!

Video: Phone Arena’s Nokia C6-01 720p Video Sample and Video review

November 23, 2010 1 comment

PhoneArena‘s got their hands on the C6-01 and have got some video samples and a video review.  The C6-01 is the cheapest of the Symbian^3 offerings but it doesn’t skimp out too much and is very good value for money.

  • Build quality wise PhoneArena were more impressed with the C7.
  • They seem to have a hang up over the screen size and the general thickness of the C6-01, and say the CBD whilst looking good with deep black and good colours, the technology is wasted on the C6-01.
  • BTW the considered slim X6 was 13.8mm, the C6-01 is 13.9. The Nokia 5800 is 15.5mm. The C6-01’s shorter stature makes it look more plump.
  • Camera on C6-01 they say appears to be the same seen on C7. Above average noise handling, good detail at 8MP and LED lights up well without bleaching.

Software wise, it’s Symbian^3 which will be pretty much the same experience on N8 and C7 (except for that issue with the smaller display). S^3 is praised for the combined GPU that allows smooth 720p video playback

Videos: Nokia X2-01 and Nokia C2-01 (launches today.)

November 22, 2010 2 comments

Below are a couple of official Nokia ads for the Nokia X2-01 (budget QWERTY) and the Nokia C2-01 (most inexpensive new 3G from Nokia) sporting a very classic Nokia candy bar style. And according to Nokia Conversations, BOTH have launched today with the X2-01 expected around 80 EUR and C2-01 around 70 EUR but prices will vary depending on local taxes and operator subsidies. X2-01 is available this quarter  and C2-01 is expected around Q1 2011.

Videos, specs and galleries after the jump 🙂

Video: Nokia C6-01 user interface demo and Review

November 18, 2010 Leave a comment

The cheaper cousin (very reasonably priced) of the Nokia N8 and C7, the rightful 5800 successor that is the C6-01 gets a software hands on demo from GSM Arena.

This shouldn’t come as anything new as what you see in the N8 you’ll see also with the C7 and similarly with the C6-01.

Pretty much same experience over different price points. No HDMI, smaller 3.2″ screen (though CBD!), and none of that glorious N8 camera capabilities. But other than that, everything inside is the same (CPU/GPU/RAM apparently – so no software issues from N8/C7/E7/C6-01). You also get (like the C7) Call and End buttons.

Whilst you’re there you might want to check out the GSM Arena Nokia C6-01 Review!

I’m off to bed, so I’ll read this some time tomorrow 😀

Video: Nokia C6-01 Hands on Demo

November 15, 2010 4 comments

The first CBD AMOLED phone on the market, Nokia C6-01 gets a quick hands on demo. However, it is in Russian, and demoed by the one and only Eldar.

The C6-01 is an extremely worthy successor to the highly widespread Nokia 5800. Unlike the days of yore – well last year, there is no difference in CPU, GPU and RAM between the flagship or this. (Some would argue pretty much the same happened for the N97 but backwards).

With the C6-01 you get a nice bonus of call and end keys (like the C7).

This will fly off the shelves despite how much Eldar says he’s not impressed by it.

The only issue I have is would folk know this is C6-01 and not just the old QWERTY-touch hybrid S^1  C6-00?

Video: White Nokia C7 Unboxing (Frosty Metal)

November 5, 2010 4 comments

The C7 comes in Mahogany Brown (Brown), Charcoal Black (Black) and Frosty Metal (White).  Here’s an unboxing of the latter (in Greek by johnkarak). Check out the box contents – ooh the 1200mAh BL-5K user swappable battery.

When speaking to the C7 product managers they seemed to be quite a fan of the White/Frosty Metal C7. Which colour for C7 do you prefer?

In the UK the C7 is around 70GBP cheaper than the N8 (from Nokia UK, unlocked – more expensive than Pay And Go BTW) and goes for Free on a £20/month 24month contract.
