In iOS (e.g. iPhone) when you long press the icons, they start shaking about meaning you can move them. You can then drag and drop icons into place and the other icons shuffle around.

You’ve always been able to move icons with Symbian, but needing to go Options>Organize.

UX Checklist for Nokia Touch Devices (Symbian, Maemo 5 and S40)

December 21, 2010 1 comment

Bill Perry has found over at Forum Nokia a 13 page PDF document checklist for Nokia Touch UX (For Symbian, S40 and surprisingly Maemo 5).

The page is dated 19th October 2010 but the file itself is more recent, from 16th December 2010.

Did you know touch devices account for 6 of Ovi Store’s top 10 downloading device models? This means when designing apps for the 19 different Nokia touch devices that support Ovi Store, it’s important to consider how users interact with their devices!

Gallery: The Real Angry Birds Seasons – Angry Bird Plush Toy out in the snow (by Nokia N8)

December 21, 2010 6 comments

I had to pick up my package which got delivered to the wrong house. On the way back I took some photos of the little critter that snuck in with it (Cheers WOMWorld!)

It’s a cool little plush toy of the famous rouge vigilante – Angry Birds. If you pull the slingshot it makes the infamous angry birds sounds!

Actually, I planned to take my actual digicam out for some snow pics, but alas, as you do, I forgot it. Luckily I always have a phone and fortunately that’s the Nokia N8 which is born to take photographs

Below are some shots with the Nokia N8 (though compressed because my TMOB connection will NOT let me upload such 9mp files 😦  )

Video: Drum Machine demo for Symbian (S60 5th) Drum beat sequencer available at Ovi Store

When I first looked at the video, I wasn’t actually sure it was meant to be a phone app due to the mass of detail on screen but it is. And it’s for you, S60 5th Edition users.

This is a drum machine –  essentially what you’re doing is arranging a pattern of beats/instruments to make a song i.e. pattern based music sequencer, like FL Studio, but just for drums.

It’s surprisingly VERY feature packed,

  • create your pattern,
  • arrange them into a song time line
  • very helpful zoom buttons
  • Can pan left and right (to make long songs)
  • Pattern play preview
  • Song play preview
  • Extensive Mix  and Tools View
  • Help section in

Check out the video below and if you’re interested, you can get it from the Ovi Store
