Official Skype App for Symbian^3 available! Nokia N8, C7, C6-01, E7

If you’re a Symbian^3 user and you go to Ovi Store for Skype, you’ll notice it says it’s not available for your phone. The folks at Skype have released an update to their Symbian app which means the newer Symbian^3 phones (N8, C7, C6-01) and E5 are now supported.

It includes SILK, our high quality audio codec, which should help make sure your calls are crystal clear, even when you’re on a low-bandwidth connection.

Skype lets you:

The update also contains a number of interface improvements, making it easier to add contacts, navigate, add a photo to your profile and set your mood message. Additionally, we’ve updated the interface to better fit larger screens.

Two questions – is there a VOIP app which will let me video call on N8 like Fring used to do? Also a bit of an off question, how are N8s holding up scratch wise on the edge of the camera bump?

By the way, Ovi Maps 3.06 got pushed via update to my N8 yesterday. Looks like it left Beta.

@ Lsk Tor, have my N8 for a few weeks now, no problem, not a scratch on the edge of the camera bump. I pickup and lay down my phone carefully (vertically) though, don’t drag on the table.

@ Fredlc120, the .sis file for skype is saved in the F:download directory. press on it to launch the installation.

Skype reboots my N8 though. I tried installing either to E: or C:. Did a complete reboot as well as tried Restore and then install again. Nothing works. Skype asked for my ID and password and then it either reboots in the middle of login or right after the log-in while asking me if I want to list all my contacts on Skype. :-\
