Video: NOKIA N8 running SoundTrckr Internet Radio (similar to Pandora) The first Geosocial Internet Radio (BetaLabs)

We’ve received some comments asking for internet radio like Pandora for the Nokia N8 as this was apparently a deal breaker for them.

Well look no further!

Fancy some music streaming? Here’s the Nokia N8 running SoundTrckr, the first GeoStreaming Internet Radio service.

Search tracks, search based on what people near you are listening to if you geotag as well as seeing your friend’s stations.

It’s not yet available on Ovi Store but if you can download if from BetaLabs.

With Soundtrckr you can:

  • Listen to more than 8 million fully licensed songs – any artist, any genre, anytime (vs Pandora’s 750,000)
  • Create and share personal radio stations
  • Play music with friends in real time
  • Search your city for popular music and people with similar taste
  • Share your favorite stations on social networks

Too bad this is still a Java style app IIRC. No Qt sadly.

Jay, thanks for the review and for the video. I am sure other Nokia N8 users will find it very useful and informative. I look forward to your feedback!!!

Rant we squeezed every bit of energy out of J2ME. We we started working on this QT was not ready… We are looking into this for net generation.

You wouldn’t be able to tell from using it that its a Java app. Looks good, works good, slick. Registered and loving it 🙂

But then on the same token from using it, you’d never normally realise that Android and Blackberry are whole operating systems based on Java either ….

Dont get me wrong. Love the way it looks, it oozes quality. Shame Qt wasn’t available at the time of development, would raise the attention of your app.

SPB Mobile Shell, very nice but also very expensive, I use it and have modded it further so it can be even NICER than what you see in the video.

SPB mobile shell is probably overpriced, although it is clever ….. I gave up on it due to it not quite correctly handling the address book (wouldn’t dial a contacts secondary number, let alone the 3rd/4th entries …)

Aaargh, I didn’t buy the N8 during the amazon sale for $430 because nothing like this existed, this was two days ago – and now it exists. luckily Dell.com is letting the green N8 go for $450. Symbian here I come!!!

P.S. was it my comments two days ago about no Pandora like service being a deal breaker that prompted this announcement of the beta? If so – I feel special 🙂

WOW… Soundtrckr the reason why a Nokia N8 is worth buying… Thanks for your words. We worked hard and we will continue to work hard to make soundtrckr the best geosocial music app on Nokia!!

I just wish you could add multi-artist stations to narrow down what you want. Any chance of this in the future?
