DEAL OF THE DAY: New Nokia N8 Unlocked for $429 (USD) at Amazon! (275GBP!)

More Tron Love.

So, following on from the Nokia N8 deals seen in Andre’s post, we have here an unlocked Nokia N8 for $429 (USD). YES, $429. Undercutting the previous awesome Dell offer (449.00) for the green N8.

This comes with free shipping. I’m not sure about taxes but I’m told there isn’t any. But if there was, it would still be cheaper than direct from Nokia.

Black (they say Gray) and Silver N8  are available at this price. Green N8 stays at 549 USD.

This is a pretty excellent deal for the Nokia N8 – 429 USD – that’s equivelant to £275 GBPNot sure how long the N8 will stay at this price. If you were considering it, today might be a good time to add to basket :).

Check it out at AMAZON.COM

Cheers to @urkishpatel for the heads up!

I just wish that Amazon U.K. would offer the N8 for £275… fat chance of that happening!

Can’t you guys order it from the U.S?
Ship it to a family member in the states and then say it’s a bday present, or is that frowned upon?

      November 28, 2010 at 4:13 pm

or they could use a forwarding company

many of them in the states along the Canadian border the fee is very minimal (no startup fee but $4 a package + whatever shipping is for the one i use)

the UK has one forwarding company that i know of but they charge so much that is if you’re a minimal user (its a monthly based fee rather than per package)

I would say that the deal of the day is zte blade below 200 euros. Zte blade is what meego will become but to wait a half year.. anyway i am a nokia fanboy but nokia is TOO slow

    • Andre
      November 28, 2010 at 8:25 pm

      Zte blade??

      No, just no.

    • Dave
      November 28, 2010 at 9:26 pm

The blade is a good phone, but the 600mHz CPU is way too slow to make a good Android gaming platform (angry birds is close on unplayable at points).

And not forgetting that the blade probably has one of the worst cameras I’ve ever used on a mobile.

i got a blade a couple of weeks ago (£90 i got it for) and tbh, for £90 as a tie-me-over device to play with until the N9 comes out.. amazing phone.

my old haggered n95 got me £65 off mazuma, making it £25.. granted the camera is pants.. but the GPS is MUCH better – i’ve not had a problem with games, gfx rendering went up by a third after putting FroYo 2.2 on it as well… you can look up vids of it benching above Galaxy S (2.1).

angry birds runs like a dream.. now come on Nokia and release the N9!!!

I’m after a new smartphone and at $429 the N8 is tough to pass up. I’m about to drop the cash for it but there doesn’t seem to be any music streaming services such as Pandora or Slacker for the US Ovi store. This is an absolute deal breaker for me – does anybody know of an equivalent service available for S^3?

    • November 28, 2010 at 8:18 pm

      Spotify?

      • 33Thirty
        November 28, 2010 at 8:26 pm

Any way for this to work in the US? I’ve heard great things about Spotify but isn’t it Europe only?

          November 28, 2010 at 8:35 pm

tunewiki is decent for internet radio but other than that there’s not much available.

Also an issue is that either due to the app, API’s or CPU, the music has irregular pauses when switching apps etc

      music stopper, Magic myPlayer?

All music related stuff is here

mobbler. its in beta right now, but the beta version works really well. heres the link to the beta version of mobbler for the formerly known “S^3” phones. http://code.google.com/p/mobbler/wiki/BetaTesting

Music streaming…just use the FM radio! Or are you just so brainwashed into paying for every little thing at this point. And we wonder why the US Galaxy S’s have their FM radios removed. Got to have that $30 data plan or else it ain’t a smartphone…

Thanks Andre and Alex for the info, there looks to be enough music related apps to keep me occupied, I think I might take the plunge.

Jakob, the FM where I live is awful, not a single station I can even bare to listen to. Pandora, however, I can listen to day after day, with music tailored to my interests, and never get sick of it. If I’m already paying $30/month for data, why not make the most of it?

If you want to buy, be decisive and buy it now. It may run out SOON and you may have to wait really a long time for a good deal again.

    Check the out-of-stock info.

Now N8 is No. 1 at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/wireless/283273011/ref=pd_ts_zgc_cps_283273011_more?pf_rd_p=1276673962&pf_rd_s=right-4&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=283273011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0N4M6CM0G9Y2YZ5NWM1V

Now that list seems strange- not even 1 Android phone in the top 20 phones?
If that is true (maybe because they are all sold by carriers) then this list is not really relevant, everybody knows that Android rules in the US.

    • alex68
      November 28, 2010 at 9:35 pm

It is strange at all. Unlocked phones are about 5% market share in USA and the most American people are used to buy a phone on a contract but N8-00 is not a contract phone. Among the unlocked phones, N8 is popular. Is this relevant?

      • alex68
        November 28, 2010 at 9:39 pm

        not strange at all.

        November 28, 2010 at 9:41 pm

Well the N8 is number 1 in a very limited segment of the market and only because Nokia is underselling it for 30% less than in the EU judt to get market share which they could maybe not get otherwise. I am not too happy about that- here the N8 is still not available and once it will be it’ll cost 470€. Great way to treat your good old european customers.

        • alex68
          November 28, 2010 at 9:49 pm

No, actually Nokia’s dealers are offering such prices. I guess if anyone is able to order a truck load, anyone could bargain more.

Where are you from in Europe? N8 is not yet available?

          • Georg
            November 28, 2010 at 9:56 pm

            Austria.
It was available in Germany and Switzerland but not here. Nokia Austria themselves said on their Facebook page “from mid-December at the earliest”. So maybe not even in 2010.

            November 28, 2010 at 10:05 pm

Very strange. I thought N8 was available in Austria already.

What is this rating page about? Just two days agao, N8 was on the top 1 all the time.

portugal doesnt even have the n8 yet

          November 28, 2010 at 10:06 pm

It’s not underselling. You have to remember that all US sites list prices without VAT.

I bought my N8 for 3200kr excl. 25% VAT thats about 438 USD a month ago.

          • alex68
            November 28, 2010 at 10:11 pm

But goods from amazon don’t need to pay for VAT, right?

So the price from Nokia on-line-shop doesn’t have VAT included?

          • Murble
            November 29, 2010 at 4:12 am

This is true, they are not underselling it. The wholesale cost of the N8 in the US is below $429, and that is for a smaller company like the one I work for. I imagine that Amazon gets an even larger bulk discount. They are still making money off them at $429.

The problem is that up until this point, there hasn’t been a steady enough supply of them.

They need to pay but its up to the customer to report and pay the state VAT/Sales tax so in reality no one does it. Nokia US online shop doesn’t include VAT either.

yeah north american sites don’t include sales taxes on their sites but when you go through the Checkout if you’re area has a sales tax (not all states in the USA have sales tax) you may be charged (depending on the retailer and depending if they have a store in your state) etc :d

Sorry for my ignorance but what’s the difference between US & UK version

    • December 5, 2010 at 5:05 pm

There’s no physical difference really other than possible origin of N8.

        December 5, 2010 at 5:18 pm

… and presumably the plug on the power adapter!
