Leak: Nokia X7 Leak – The Nokia Orion concept come true?

Back in February, Nokia Conversations covered a post about a concept phone that folks wished Nokia Made.

It was called the Nokia Orion and resembled a gameboy advance esque (now N8 esque) tapered edges. It’s a little more streamlined than the orion with totally flat seamless front unlike the N8 and E7 with bezels and plastic tips for reception. (This bodes well for the very sleak Community concept, Nokia U, no? :D)

Well behold what is supposedly the leaked Nokia X7. It’s Symbian^3 based candy bar touch screen. Check it out above playing NFS shift, as well as screens and a video below showing X7 with S^3 (but with 4 homescreens. This would be nice especially with the upcoming draggable homescreen)

We’ll update as soon as we find out on tech specs. Most likely it should have the same innards (CPU/GPU/RAM) as the other S^3 handsets.

Alex68 says:

This likely the ATT phone for the USA market.

Update: Apparently there are:

  • Quad Speakers (it is a music phone ) supposedly very loud
  • 4″ AMOLED (CBD like E7?)
  • 8MP Dual LED flash
  • Fixed battery

Info from Modryzub forumsvia slashgear << thanks to Pritish for the heads up.

Check it out next to E7

“Most likely it should have the same innards (CPU/GPU/RAM) as the other S^3 handsets.”

I don’t know if you remember but Alex68 said that there will be a very powerful S^3 device. May be it’s the X7? I’m not sure but Alex68, can you confirm this (if you can/are allowed to)?

Most likely this is it, which other handset could it be? Top end is filled now. C6(01) C7 N8 E7 and now the X7. That would only leave the N9 and E6 (maybe a new X6)

This phone is targeted as a street phone so nothing really special in terms of cpu and ram.

I like it, not so much for personal use. (Looking at you 8MP EDoF unit, supposedly) Other than that, these new designs from Nokia are nice. Not like all the same Korean/Taiwan stuff (Samsung with the Galaxy S iPhone clone and HTC with much of the same)

If they can keep this going and get the SW part up to speed Nokia just might get some of that former shine and glory again.

I hope it doesn’t use Nokia’s EDof camera technology.

It is most likely, same 8Mpix unit. The probably bought that unit in bulk, drive the price down. Maximize profit, minimize cost for the consumer.
I would be pleasantly surpised if it were to be an AF unit.

Well, I don’t know for sure. Just assumptions, but in a business type point of view it is most likely to be the exact same unit as on the C6, C7 and E7. Same software, same algorithms, same hardware.
        S3 consistency FTW.

This thing has four homescreens unlike other S^3 handsets.

It is sad that we’ve somewhat regressed and now looking forward to autofocus when that should be standard. As much as that article tried to explain benefits of full focus, it’s just not for me. Though for millions of others – maybe.

EDoF is definitly a turn-off for me personally, however I do see the point that Damian was trying to make. The people in the blog-o-sphere (Us) tend to use phones differently and demand more from a camera for instance.
But most user just take that funny pic of their friend that fell in the pool. Or a pic of that nice looking car the see parked at the side of the street.
They can’t be bothered with something called focussing because they don’t know or want to know.

For those people EDoF is perfect, an easy way of making photo’s and more importantly a way to snap pic without the lack of sharpness. Quick and Easy, those are the keywords for EDoF and note Crazy Insane Perfect that is reserved for the N8.

Talk about regress. What can we see on the newer S3 phones?Progress like no auto-focus,no lens cover,no stereo speakers,no bright screen because the damn sensor keeps overriding user settings.Hey at least they have hardware acceleration. The N8 is the last Symbian phone for me and at the moment I still keep my N900 as my main phone.Really in my eyes the N8 is a glorified feature phone.I really HOPE the updates coming next year, especially for the web-browser,will bring SERIOUS improvements.Oh and I don’t know why the progressive Symbian team decided it was a good idea to remove Nokia Internet Radio from phones? Also no more custom equalizer setting for the music player?…C’mon Nokia!

        November 26, 2010 at 7:39 pm

Bu the way I still love Nokia I just don’t like this 2 steps forward 1 step back they’re doing at the moment.I still love both my N900 and my N8-AND my N82 I keep in my drawer 🙂 but I know they could’ve been so much better.

      • alex68
        November 26, 2010 at 7:42 pm

No, they did not remove anything in Symbian 3, but Symbian 3 was forked or created from some early clean and stable branch which did not have many things such as Internet radio seen in S60v5. Simply S60V6 was bloated and a kind of flop that made no sense to be a point to continue from. Those things available in S60V5 will be gradually ported back to Symbian 3 later.

          November 26, 2010 at 11:09 pm

Ok Alex. You seem to know your stuff when it comes to Nokia.I for one don’t know many details about Symbian’s development stages.I only see the end results in Nokia phones and I am sad to see popular features removed (even if it’s temporary).Apart from the camera,Nokia Internet Radio is my second most used app so you can understand why I am sad it’s not onboard by default.I use the S60V5 version on my N8 and everytime I use another app or change screen orientation while I’m using it sound gets interrupted for a second.Plus the double tap thing is not cool either.Hope we get a Symbian 3 version soon.

          • November 26, 2010 at 11:42 pm

In this case, I believe it could be a good thing. It’s important to remember those features you speak of were not removed, as per alex’s comments, they took an earlier Symbian build for which the features hadn’t yet been coded, and used that for S^3.

Had they used a later build, that included these features, they may have been less then stellar in performance while running on S^3. Not to say they would have, just could have.

I think it’s better that Nokia started with a cleaner, more stable build of S^3 and adds onto it instead of using a later build that may have its own issues. You know? 🙂

Nokia Internet Radio was working just fine with my E71 but I was silly enough to have updated the version when I saw it available. After the update installation, it says it is not supported in my area. Dah~ it was working just fine up to the last second before I updated it and now I have no way to revert the update.

Is Nokia in such financial trouble that they have to cut on cameras aswell now and try to convince us that it is actually a good thing?

      Auto Focus Nokia, AUTO FOCUS!

      • alex68
        November 27, 2010 at 7:47 am

NOKIA don\t have financial trouble as it sit on a pile of 5 or 6 Billion cash as of Q2 but the profit is wafer thin. New products may help to improve the profit a bit, but may not really help to reverse the trend totally if Nokia are not able continue to deliver competitive products in market IN TIME…

NOKIA will continue to roll out new Symbian 3 phones but markets are expecting more than that. So do I.

Is this the super-duper fast Symbian phone? What’s the processor?

    Please tell!

  9. November 26, 2010 at 4:15 pm

Are those speakers on each side of the end?? …oh hey, updated article that says speakers, haha. Glad I scrolled back up to count how many bars were in the shell first.

If this is the AT&T phone that was talked about, I’m good with that. I can ignore it safely and if I do buy an N8, don’t have to be worried about stupid smart phone plans!

May be a faster processor ? Or a CBD display ?

Four homescreens instead of three => new firmware or more RAM?
The E7/C7/C6-01 already have a bigger ROM than the N8.

Doesn’t look too bad. I wouldn’t be surprised if it showed up in the upcoming Tron movie, of which Nokia seems to be a major sponsor.
Other than that, it’s sad to see they had another leak. This was hurting them badly in the past.
Oh, and they really need to get a new screen font. It is pulling the entire UI down.

I don’t really see where this leak should hurt. The N8 will still sell because of the different crowd i attracts. The C7 is the same made more for the decent people that want an established design.
And the C6 is the allround budget phone in the S3 class. E7 is of course a different league.
I see some benefit in this leak. It shows Nokia can make nice phones that don’t look like an iPhone eventhough it is a touchdevice.

Most of the competition is just an iPhone, looking at you Galaxy S.

The angles on the design of this phone make it look like a 1980’s vision of the future. Like someone working for Omni Consumer Products would have this phone.

The design looks interesting enough, but I’m not a fan of the colours. The black, silver and white combo looks hideous. Hopefully Nokia give us a few options like in the N8/E7/C7.
