Nokia E7 Promo Video – Experience the New Nokia E7 – The Ultimate Business Smartphone

November 15, 2010 8 comments

Here’s a promo video of the Nokia E7. She’s a fashion designer who’s supposedly out in nature and breaking free.

That tilt-flip screen action though…awesome. And that incredible keyboard – Oh I wish all future Nokia QWERTY tilts will have that or better (hello N9!).

I don’t get the part where the girl pauses to take a photo of a butterfly. Sorry, but no macro for you. And oh it’s the PDF viewer where you can’t view in full screen. YAY! (pdf viewing is so nice on N900…HMMP)

Intel rival AMD joins MeeGo Project!

November 15, 2010 12 comments

Speaking of Open projects, AMD joins the Linux Foundation’s MeeGo Project. Why not, I mean we’ve got ARM chipsets too for MeeGo, despite Intel (MeeGo founders with Nokia) being AMD’s fiercest competitor. As said in the conference, innovation comes from collaboration NOT from one single man. Chris Schlaeger, Director of AMD Operating System is currently speaking at the MeeGo project.

“We will put resources, invest time and money where we think we can put meaningful contributions. If you think GPU/CPU can’t make a difference, beware. I really look forward to working with you guys”

Apparently he’s been following MeeGo project before MeeGo existed as he had the Nokia N810 and enjoyed tweaking it – and now is really happy to see how far it has come.

“Great example of Industry collaborations at work…we look forward to more industry arch rivals” [MeeGo Conference chair?]

“MeeGo represents an exciting, open-source mobile operating system we expect to be adopted by mobile and embedded device makers over time,” said Ben Bar-Haim, corporate vice president, software development, AMD. “We are glad to provide engineering resources to joint industry efforts like MeeGo and expect that this operating system will help drive our embedded plans and create expanded market opportunities for our forthcoming Accelerated Processing Units.”

Video: Nokia India TV ad – Kiss and Slap.

November 15, 2010 2 comments

Yes, the video is as odd as the title.

It’s an add for an App called Kiss and Slap, demoed on the Nokia 5233.

Here’s a fun ad for the ‘Kiss and Slap’ App for Nokia Touch Devices. Send Kisses or Slaps to your friends, right from your phone.

This one of its kind fun application enables you to send kisses and slaps to anyone from your phone. To send a kiss, open the application and kiss the screen! Yes, kiss it! To send a slap, swing the phone in a slap action to dispatch a slap. That’s simple, easy and a lot of fun. Best of all free!

Also quite interesting is how we are not linked to ovi store but http://www.nokia.co.in/services-and-apps/touch-apps

Video: American Idol’s David Archuleta talks Nokia N8 at Singapore Nokia N8 Conference.

November 15, 2010 1 comment

David Archuleta (runner up in American Idol, though long time favourite somehow out done by the other dude that no one remembers) was at the N8 conference in Singapore to talk about his album and the Nokia N8.

He says he doesn’t normally take a camera so it was good to have a really good one to take pictures with. He said he also likes the HiDef – having a little movie screen in his pocket. ??? Maybe he’s referring to the HDMI thing or the 720p recording? In terms of favourite colours, Archuleta has the blue N8 (I’ve been looking for this EVERYWHERE) he likes the blue one and the silver one too and the black…(exact train of thoughts when I wanted to choose N8 colours).

Continue sticking your N8 with celebs, Nokia. If you can, target the tweens, Twilight and Bieber fans too. They may not all have purchasing power but oh their parents do and they virtually pretty much control a lot of social media on the net. Look what they’ve created. The Bieber – how that was always a trending topic till Twitter itself had to cull it.

Popularity by association. Keep at it so folks can give your devices a chance to see how great they are.

Videos: Symbian^1 versus Symbian^3 – what has changed?

November 15, 2010 21 comments

“Everybody says, that Symbian^3 hasn’t changed, but look for yourself!”

I’m surprised no such detailed comparison has been done. Actually planned to do it myself this weekend but caught up on coursework (which I’m half doing as I write this). But jenjaman has done an excellent job and split it into a four round match between old and new Symbian touch.

Although the comparison is with the C6-00 and not N97/N97 mini, the software is possibly nigh on identical. Screen size difference shouldn’t matter too much, neither should AMOLED vs LCD (except AMOLED looking better) though having a capacitive versus resistive indeed does.

S^3 representatives are N8 and C7.

Watching the C6-00 S^1 is quite frustrating.

Dialler, App Menu, Music Player (zomg menu in landscape of S^1 wtf 😮 the ugly sidebar), Messaging

Ovi Maps

Ovi Store

Web Browser

So there you go. Quite a lot has changed – but is this even enough?

Thanks to jenjaman for the heads up 😀

Video: Nokia C6-01 Hands on Demo

November 15, 2010 4 comments

The first CBD AMOLED phone on the market, Nokia C6-01 gets a quick hands on demo. However, it is in Russian, and demoed by the one and only Eldar.

The C6-01 is an extremely worthy successor to the highly widespread Nokia 5800. Unlike the days of yore – well last year, there is no difference in CPU, GPU and RAM between the flagship or this. (Some would argue pretty much the same happened for the N97 but backwards).

With the C6-01 you get a nice bonus of call and end keys (like the C7).

This will fly off the shelves despite how much Eldar says he’s not impressed by it.

The only issue I have is would folk know this is C6-01 and not just the old QWERTY-touch hybrid S^1  C6-00?

Event: First MeeGo Conference 2010 begins today (15th – 17th) 09:00 GMT

November 15, 2010 4 comments

The FIRST ever MeeGo conference begins today in Dublin at 09:00GMT. (Well today if we’re ignoring the early bird sessions that happened during the weekend). No more Maemo Summit, it is now of course all about MeeGo.

The overview of the events are as shown below, but a much detailed programme list can be found here. <<Please check it out!

I’m not attending as I have placements this week that I could not miss but we’ll still try and provide a good coverage of some of the more interesting aspects when we can. What’s cool is that a lot of the main events are being live streamed. The very first two are must watch: Strategic Freedom with MeeGo at 9:15-9:45 with Doug Fisher (Intel Vice President, Software and Services Group, General Manager, Systems Software Division) and MeeGo Momentum and the Qt App Advantage at 09:45 – 10:15 with Alberto Torres (Executive Vice President, MeeGo Computers, Mobile Solutions).

On Tuesday, November 16th, I’ll would be really looking forward to MeeGo Handset UX Roadmap (also live streamed) with Sami Pienimäki at 4:30PM – 5:10PM but most likely I’d still be at my placement.

The session will give an introduction into the MeeGo Handset UX activities and its current status, the vision and goals, the roadmap and deliverables in particular hardware profiles. It will also address the compliance plans, the participants and co-operation model, and how to get involved.

And look what happens at the end of the Conference: Ireland / Norway Football Game at Aviva 😮 Nice.

There’s so much to get out of the MeeGo Conference! So much to find out and learn, possibly many devices to go play around with 😀 TI OMAP 4 and ST ERICSSON U8500 reference designs with MeeGo.

What are you most looking forward to at MeeGo Conference? What are your expectations?
