Video: Maze Lock demoed on the Nokia N8 (For S60 5th and 3rd edition too)

wolftongren‘s demoes on video a new ThinkChange app called Maze lock. Basically, if you’ve seen how Android phones unlocked with a predefined numeric key swipe, this is pretty much like that. This adds to the many styles of unlock you can now have for your Symbian phone including fingerprint scanner, face lock and slide to unlock.

MazeLock offers an innovative way to unlock your touch screen phone.

You need first to set your own unlock pattern by connecting some of the nine white dots together (There is a default unlock pattern pre setted). When you try to unlock your phone, you need to draw the same pattern exactly as you set.

You can also protect your side bar slider key — double click the menu key to lock the phone. When the phone is locked, single click the menu key to show you the lock screen with large time display, if you only want to glance at the time, signle click the menu key again to turn off the light to save the battery!

The lock screen can be easily configured according to your own preference: you can download plenty of backgrounds for free, the date and time display can be changed, the color of the text is also configurable.

Can’t seem to find it yet on Ovi Store but you can get it from Tong Ren’s site at thinkchange.mobi

This is great just tested in and works fine on my 5800. I used to use Finger print but if someone tapped on the XpressMusic dedicated button, they tended to override the Finger print hence the flaw on top of the fact that it was a trick. This one there is no way about it…

On another note, is there a face detection software available as you said “This adds to the many styles of unlock you can now have for your Symbian phone including fingerprint scanner, face lock and slide to unlock.”?

the concept is good but the execution is not. it should be an app that’s timed to start after a certain amount of time of inactivity, as well as a one button turn on – click on something, and “lock phone?” “YES” and you’re done. it’s such a lengthy process to lock the phone, you have to go to a menu etc etc etc. very messy

Make someone call you and pick up the call. During the call, press the menu button to go to the menu then press and hold the menu button to close the app.

At last an unlock with powerful security. I was thinking maybe a password or something but this is more interesting. Very, very good. I was using those slide versions coz im concern about the slidebar on the side. But the problem now is my nieces unlock them easily. So I wanted some sort of security. And now here it is! But obviously not yet complete. Do u realized that there are seemingly infinite patern combos?! U can connect 2 dots w/o activating a dot that’s in between, & it will be a unique patern on its own! Keep working on this dude, its ubercool. The menu button activate is so handy.

Suggestions: U have to find a way to hide the app from task view. Feels lame to see it on the process indicator. Put the options menu on the main lock screen itself. Put an autostart when phone starts. Put an idle timer. These are basics but very essential. Cosmetics can come later. And also, if u could find a way to hide the dots first to show the whole wallpaper.. then we can just press something (maybe the padlock icon on the upper side) to make the dots show and input our pattern. Its quite cryptic to see those 9 dots all the time. Theyr not ugly, but not attractive either..
