Nokia N8 Portrait QWERTY – no more separate text entry field

Above is a portrait QWERTY for the Nokia N8 which has been much anticipated. This should mean that swype (which I’m not a fan off, mostly because I cannot turn it off – like literally, it keeps turning itself back on and won’t let me use default qwerty) should work in portrait soon too.

Notice how the text entry field is not a separate text box (as seen yesterday in the new browser/fw preview) and also the suggested words bar.

Thanks to JFH for the tip – image comes by way of hardwarezone forum

If you can’t wait for the official Portrait QWERTY, there seems to be a .sisx file attached for the keyboard. Usual warnings for third party software.

n8 portrait qwerty is built in and can’t be uninstalled by hacking. You can enable it when need it. The T9 keyboard (ie. for people with fat fingers) is still default one.

can not be uninstalled without hacking.

Alex, will you be making a video of portrait QWERTY and a multitouch demo?

Wait…is this portrait qwerty an official Nokia-made update, or did someone else make it? I’m confused.

No, it looks different than the original one on N8. I suppose it is made by a third party in China.

so you’re saying i can change the keyboard from the default one to the full keyboard like in the picture in portrait mode without installing anything? where do i find this setting?

For this to work, u’ll need to find Dayhand Input Keyboard.. its there at the dailymobile S60V5 Forums.. Only thing is u gotta sign it.. U’ll find tutorials of how to sign unsigned apps. over there too.. If u r really into Symbian, go learn how to sign unsigned apps. Its worth it..

Just like the N900 deal with viewing in portrait mode. It was there but Nokia didn’t tell anyone. If the portrait qwerty is already installed on the N8,let people choose which one they want to use. The world won’t implode.

A portrait keyboard option in the contacts search should be useful too.

oké…maybe a stupid question , but I’m not really in such things.

first of all: how to install the .sisx file on my N8 ?
2)what are the consequences of installing the keyboard ??
    3) is it still possible to change to T9 keyboard ??
    4) maybe this is a difficult one: is it possible if someone post a youtube video of using this type of keyboard (playing a bit with it , show what the possibilitys are,…)

    Thanks !!

Baidu Input is the follow-up to Dayhand Input – Dayhand was purchased by Baidu last year.
