great news. I’ll be interested in a few months to see how many sells N8 will have. 🙂
any predictions? I’ll say it will be over 10 million in the next 6 months.

10 million… maybe, but Nokia is soon publishing other new models and customers, who would buy N8 may decide to buy one of the new models. I like the C7, which will be a cheaper model of N8 with 8MP camera, and without hdmi…

I like seeing people happy with their Nokias. I still love my N900 but we all know it’s not exactly for the masses. Finally a worthy replacement for the N95.

Spot on, and they should be. Of course you would experience some negative things, but look at some problems that the just released G2 has. @Engadget; but they do make the problem look as if it is just minor, while the entire hinge system (which faintly reminds of the one Nokia uses) is just loose.

Nice to see this happen. 😀

@Jay: Who owns that engadgetsucks wordpress blog? Same look as this one. Makes one think 😛

    • October 2, 2010 at 12:01 pm

HA, this is a popular theme on wordpress (only using it as the old one disappeared suddenly).

But no, we are not engadgetsucks.wordpress.com though that blog is quite right in what they mention about ilovefruitupmyass.com er i mean, engadget.

ok… thanks for ur time u took to write the comment.

      now get the hell out!

stop comparing stupid stuff… want to compare numbers?! how much nokia sell in a year?… gr8, now how much android+iphone sell in a year?

stop going after the american press! they just like to show “who has the biggest”
they want more MHZ in a processor, more RAM, more INCHES in a screen, more PIXELS and so on… it doesnt necessary mean that more is better! all these things drain more battery life… they cost more… and for real life use… it doesnt matter at all…
all this APP nonsense is just a way to make u spend more money on things u dont need! or just a way to show u more advertisements!

im happy with my nokia as naked as the day of their birth! (maybe install maxxxxx 4-5 apps… wich most of them are free, i just payed for shazam)

as for games… im payin for angry birds and thats it! i dont need 700000000 apps on my phone!

just look at the american car industry , its rubbish!

Yeah, its funny that Engadget posted the Android news but didn’t mention the Ovi store’s stats when… 😛

I think one of the main reasons Apple’s App Store and Android Market have more apps is because they are ruling in the United States and people here can afford to spend a lot on silly apps.So normally developers go where the money is.Ovi Store is growing with each day and I believe when Symbian 4 and Meego come around the number of apps for Nokia will increase exponentialy.

HURRAH! – looks like none of those people read Engadget, CNet or TechRadar then – home of dishonest journalism.

Things are starting to get ugly against the N8. Gizmodo just upload a VDO to show N8 doing tasks slower then BB and Iphone 4.
You guys need to see it to understand how low Gizmodo can get.

      • George
        October 2, 2010 at 6:23 am

The guy typing was typing really slow, but if you watch the screens, it’s clear that the N8 isn’t designed to flow as well as the the other OSes.

Watch the video 3 times and each time look for what the person has to do. For example, for the maps, on the iPhone, you bring up the map and immediately you start typing the address you want to go to. With the N8, the map has to render then you have to tell it you need to go somewhere, by the time you start typing, the iPhone is practically done typing. The N8 guy could have been faster but that doesn’t change the overall characteristics and flow and usability which is where the N8 loses.

To be fair, they needed someone that is also fast with the N8, but it still wouldn’t have beaten the other two.

          October 2, 2010 at 11:15 am

Whatever you say George. I like all 3 phones … But no one and I mean no one should be understanding of the unethical journalism by gizmodo today.

            October 2, 2010 at 7:11 pm

The facts don’t like. Even if you speed up user operation, The N8 is still likely to be slower than the rest because of the interface. You may not like the messenger, but are you sure the message is wrong?

The lineups in Russia were crazy too

Overall it seems to be a major success across europe/asia

    October 2, 2010 at 4:04 am

check out this video a Russian reviewer is showing off a lot of samples and comparisons of the N8 here’s one of the Iphone4 vs N8

  11. Stylinred
    October 2, 2010 at 4:09 am

reading some reviews i thought the iphone 4 was a lot thinner than the N8… i read one saying the N8 couldn’t compare

but looking at this video…. they look the same size wth???

    • A-S-D
      October 2, 2010 at 4:12 am

The iPhone is much thinner but it doesn’t look it or feel it.

      • Stylinred
        October 2, 2010 at 6:00 am

i just looked @ the dimensions and the N8 is 3.5mm thicker but i’m wondering if they included the cameras protrusion? (which i imagine would make .5mm-1mm difference?)

regardless even 3.5mm is almost nothing

        • ana
          October 3, 2010 at 12:30 pm

of course they include the camera protrusion. The dimensions are always the maximum dimensions, from the thickest points….

    here is a good review.

    October 2, 2010 at 7:32 am

You know what I find hilarious? The 3 star rating of the N8 by CNET is comparable to that of iPhone 4 by the users, whilst the user rating of almost perfect score for the N8 is comparable to that of what CNET felt about the iPhone 4.

Now I know there are a lot more user reviews for the iPhone 4, but I still find it hilarious!

      October 2, 2010 at 7:48 am

I noticed the same thing… my prediction is that the media will hate it, whilst Amazon and other user-generated reviews will be far more accurate. Fact is, US tech media hates Nokia, and they *really* want this phone to suck, while the small but vocal users base will be there to defend and call on their bullshit.

      • George
        October 2, 2010 at 8:34 am

The US media owes nothing to Nokia. They were top dog and if they want their respect back, well they need to earn it and the N8 while a good device (undoubtedly will be successful) is not one the tech blogging community will be that excited about.

        • Stylinred
          October 2, 2010 at 8:48 am

that has nothing to do with hating on Nokia and hoping they perish while they support inferior? equal? products

          • George
            October 2, 2010 at 8:56 am

I would hardly call the iPhone and current Android phones inferior. The N8 finally is releasing a semi-high end smartphone, after how long? It will take more than that to get back to the top. If you can’t objectively see how hard this battle is going to be for Nokia, I don’t know what to say.

          • Stylinred
            October 2, 2010 at 9:43 am

yes being inferior is a contentious issue and i dont entirely believe that the n8 defeats its competitors in every aspect but speaking about the overall product i would say its arguable; that’s why i have “equal” in there as well

A friend of mine in Bejing got the phone yesterday and he is very impressed! Its the best phone he has ever had (and he is a geek!). He thinks it will be a big success in China. I cant wait to get mine!

haha asian nerds standing in line because they can’t afford iphone.. this won’t happend in europe, there will be 2-3 dumbos asking for the phone – yeah, but no line, you guys will see. And hands down, i don’t like the iphone and haven’t got one, and no i’m not gonna buy one either, but how blind can you be, n8 sucks iphones ball, go play with your n8 cams, you guys gonna make some nasty pics under your blankets – great, but who the hell wants to see those pics? none, yeah, maybe some other n8 dumbo. end of story…. sorry nokia, design follows functions is ok for me, but the n8 is really f*****g ugly! (Voted ugliest mobile from the Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London)

      October 2, 2010 at 1:57 pm

you do know there where already lines in Europe , pictures even posted on this site, And yes no one will buy one , thats why the pre orders for the phone have been great. Go troll somewhere else

      October 2, 2010 at 2:28 pm

poor chinese? There are two N8 packages, one 6100ish RMB and another one 5100ish RMB. Iphone4 on Unicom is 4200ish RMB. 1 EURO=8.86 RMB. IPHONE4 price in Hongkong has been dropping at least 100 RMB each day..

Clueless idiot! Wondering if you are able to do a simple math cal…

    @Prt: LOL.. 🙂

Whats up with Jimmy H?? You just go buy your precius design phone. Maybe us other folks can buy our “voted ugliest” phone in pease, and enjoy the power of a real smartphone.
There may not be endlessly long lines at the european stores, and why not?? Nokia buyers are not that stupid. We just preorder our N8, and get it delivered directly to our adress. Why the hell would I stand in line for several days, when I can sit in my coutch and wait for it to be delivered??

Nokiapeoble dont have to be the first in line to get new devices, so we can rub it in everyones faces, and say “look at me, I have the new N8”. Nope we leave that to the Iphone peoble, who are dumb enough to spend endlessly amounts of money, on their crappy “almost” smartphones..

If you knew anything about smartphones at all, you would know that also the Iphone is very slow in maps, the very first time you use it. So is the nokia N8, and its obvious that its the first time maps is being used in the test. Try the same test, were maps have been preinstalled on the N8. And yes thats right, nokias can actually preinstall maps.
Most owners of symbian devices knows, that symbian is extreemly fast, if you know how to use it. If you dont close programs down, but in stead put it in standby, even old nokis are quicker than iphones and android phones. My old n95 8Gb works alot faster than my friends Iphone 3GS, and thats with symbian S60v3, and a 300Mhz processor. I know that symbian 3 works even faster, so Im very exited to see for real, how fast they have made it, now where it can handle real multitasking. Symbian is king of multitasking, and neither android or OIS4 will never reach these heights.
So pack it up. Real symbian users will be able to do the tasks in the test way faster than the BB and Iphone user. I can do the tasks faster on my N95. I dont think that the N8 will be slower than my N95…
