Nokia N8 delay… not as bad as it seems? (at least from a US prospective)

I got this tip from a US reader who works for a large US retailer (sent to tips@mynokiablog.com). Since he’s taken the time to blur out tracable details, we’ll keep his name anonymous. Thanks for the tip:)

Previously the ETA for N8 to be in their stock was Sept 21st, but these have now been adjusted to October 2nd for one vendor and October 6th for another vendor.

The device is predicted to launch at around 449USD, decreasing in price to 399USD in the space of a couple of months. Again, silver, white and grey appear to be the first few colours available for these two vendors.

How negatively will delays if any (on the N8) impact Nokia? Is it better that Nokia learns from the N97 and put out a product that does not require fixing?

Here’s an interesting article from Forbes – bloggers vs analysts on N8 delay. 😛

“Montano adds that it’s better that Nokia provide a fully working, hassle and bug-free product than release something faulty. “Like you know, one that drops calls when you hold it the wrong way.”

– Parmy Olson, London Bureau Chief, FORBES.

Note – I was texting under the lecture desk this answer (via N900) and was not sure if what I sent actually made sense. I did not realise my little rambling would be published.

I hope this will be swept under the rug. Pretty much all other Nokia delays have been – though none have garnered as much attention as the N8.

Where are you seeing the price launch as $449?

    • September 23, 2010 at 7:15 am

From the source – it was a predicted price. Was similar to the N8 price found at Tesco (largest retailer in UK)

Well Expansys had also adjusted their release date to Oct 7th

BLT still has theirs listed at $455 and apparently they have 12,000 units already pre-ordered!

I suggest people who have been waiting just hold on. Be a little more patient and give peace for Nokia to finish the last work. Time will tell it is worthy waiting. Believe me.

Delay it and reduce the price!

It has to be up to the industry standard by the time of launching as people have 4 absolutely smooth operating systems to choose from (Apple OS, Windows Phone 7, Android and even Web OS is super-smooth!).

Those other OSes are all inferior to Symbian^3 and the devices they run on all inferior to the N8, and also more expensive.

It will be an easy win for the N8, believe me.

450/400u$d so 330/300euros wow incredible price against around 450eur required here…

That’s why the predicative low prices sound very skeptical to me… Here in Finland the price is 499 euro. N8 will be very hot and short of supply. Why on earth Nokia would drop the price for no reason? It would be interesting to see how those retails can clear up the price mess…

Just a heads up, is it meant to say “Again, silver, white and grey appear”?? or is it silver, black (grey), green?

Please, tell me what is the meaning of these lines from the Forbes article:
“One thing Nokia should definitely fix, Milanesi’s opines after testing the phone last week, is the “Are you sure you want to send this?” pop-up that the N8 gives you before sending every text message. “It just drives me crazy,”she says.”

Is it true , I have never seen this pop up while sending a message from my nokia.
Looks like another attempt to give Nokia a bad name.

Obviously they’re talking out of their backside. Never seen that message in any version of symbian, Maemo, S40 or S30 ever. Btw, it’s not in any of the demos that I’ve seen :-P. Wonder what they did wrong.

maybe there confusing it with the ability to send a text message to multiple contacts at the same time.

you know something other OS have only just got , while Symbian have being doing it for years lol XD.

But yea even if that message about are you sure did exist (did not see it when i played with the N8) i am sure there would be an opinion to turn it off.

I checked this issue “Are you sure you want to send this?” very carefully with N8. This issue is groundless as I am not able to produce it at all. Wondering from which planet the person tested N8…

I so hope Nokia is shipping the N8 with the new browser. That would significantly increase the perception of the N8.
