HD Video: Make any screen a touch screen, TV or Projector with the Nokia N8

This is a sort of proof of concept demo by the Nokia Research Centre showing how using the N8’s camera you can turn any screen (this time a TV screen) into a full touch experience.

Imagine how this could transform presentations, particularly in schools, universities and small businesses. Instead of paying thousands of pounds for interactive whiteboards, you have this Nokia to do it for you. (Plus it’s also your Digital Camera, HD video cam corder, games machine, video player, web browser – well, etc).

It’s an early build and it’s not yet utterly polished. But you can see eventually that it works. Eventually, it may not need to be fixed in a clamp (just facing the screen without too much rigorous constraint) and the interaction would be faster and more fluid and perhaps even not requiring a cable (via WiFi, DLNA connection perhaps). Right now all you need here is the touch application.

Touch screen would work much better with a simple, affordable pointer which would light up when it touches the screen. The pointer LED would located to near of pointers’s tip. This magic wand approach would have several advantages
    1. Reliable and fast response to the touch
    2. No fingermarks on screen surface
    3. Presentator would not obscure the screen
    4. Screen would be possible to be mounted higher on the wall

this is so damn slow, no wonder it’s a nokia. god, they do crappy phones. i’m european, so i see them everywhere. still never found out why, motorola, (ericsson and )sonyericsson do way better phones. nokia ones just have goofy even-dumb-ppl-can-use interfaces and thats all. zero features and, to be true, the interface was never that good.

Guy you are entitled to your opinion (above)but there are a million or so users that love the nokia and the concept is great even if all the brands do it themselves
you did a great job on this presentation.
