Special requests for coverage at Nokia World

more reasons to love the N8

Just returned from the incredible Nokia World party.. I’ll update on the pics in the morning – much too knackered. Just wanted to say thanks for following the blog via news on the show floor or away via Andre, Sergejs (via tweets), Marc and of course John. Today just happebned to be our new busiest day ever with around 19K views. Astonishing!

Everything is pretty much covered from Nokia World. I’ll try to get some better demoes and photos, service section that has been mentioned (new ovi maps and foursquare app, plus a few others that the great Iain Wallace seems to keep finding), though I do have some nice shots of a few E7s coming in the morning.

With this in mind, do you have any requests of certain things you might like me to find out whilst at Nokia World? Any particular handsets you want photos of/videos, any particular features you want testing? I’ll check this in the morning and list any suggestions you may have. Otherwise, continue following @jaymontano for the more live stuff. I’ll try to post less often so as not to exceed the twitter limit again.

Cheers guys!

Find out if there is any chance that N8 can receive Symbian^4 update or something like that from Nokia, and of course some more news about the new Ovi browser.

    Thanks! =]

Also, ask if there will be any N8 variants. Like 32 GB or QWERTY or something.
And if any of the devices announced will be available in North America (US AND Canada!)

Can you ask if they will be moving future batches of the N8 to the new ClearBlack display technology?

i was under the impression that the n8 had a CBD screen :/

I hope it does. Ive hadn’t heard anyone mention CBD screens until the three new models came out today.

only the E7 and the C6 have CBD display. Nokia’s excuse was that the technology wasn’t ready when the phone was being developed. This does suck because, although I’m still getting an N8, I REALLY want that CBD Technology!

    The fate of N9?-)

    • September 16, 2010 at 4:35 pm

Perhaps next year, Q1? There’s still MeeGo sunmmit to go this year, Ireland.

  4. September 15, 2010 at 1:03 am

Maybe it’s not really about coverage, but… I’ll be greatfull if you could load up my blog’s homepage (mobilegeekinc.com) on E7 and take a picture of it 🙂 Would be awesome to have such pic! Of course, I’ll give you proper credit on my site 🙂
Take care, and have fun tomorrow!
    Cheers

I’d really appreciate if you could give your opinion on how the nHD resolution looks on the 4″ display of the e7. Also, check how it fares in bright sunlight. And will the e7 support Divx /Xvid playback out of the box.
And before the event ends, be sure to remind every nokia person you meet that 1200 mAh battery doesn’t cut it nowadays. There are going to be a lot of apps running on these things. I don’t care if the OS doesn’t get an upgrade. I don’t want it if S^3 runs smothly and fir the same reason i don’t care if the processor can be overclocked. But God! I desperately need a bigger battery.

    • September 16, 2010 at 4:37 pm

nHD looks great. Not blocky at all as I’d expected, but the CBD AMOLED is something you really have to see in person. It’s great.

      All Symbian^3 handsets will playback DivX/XvID, C7, E7, C6, N8 and whatever else comes.

        September 17, 2010 at 1:46 am

Actually, no. they wont. its only the N8 so far. I double checked on Nokia’s official website and it doesnt mention Divx/mkv playback on E7, C7, C6.

Hey, i would like to know:
    1) If they will upgrade Symbian^3 phones to S^4?
    2) If they plan to improve the online Ovi calendar and contacts to first iron-out the major syncing bugs and also if they plan to make Ovi calendar useful as an online only tool also. Currently the way it is designed is that it works best only for synchronization with the phone.
    3) If they plan to have Ovi Files like services for online files backup for their users?
    4) If they plan to improve and/or continue development on the Ovi Share or are they planning to close it like Ovi Files?

    Thanks,
    Hary.

      Hi also few more additions:
      1) Will they have new Ovi Store update, Nokia browser update and Ovi Maps update for S60v5 phones?
Currently Ovi store update is only for S^3.

        Ok, one more thing.
Everywhere, especially US bloggers, sites and analysts are saying that the homescreen has lag after swiping. We have seen and discussed abt this here earlier also, and i think that it is a feature, the way homescreen implementation is designed. Pls get the clarification from a top Nokia person(if possible) and i think suggest them that Nokia should act fast to pass this message loud and clear to the public out there about this homescreen thing, else it will be blown out of proportion on these online posts. I have already seen every single post at engadget, intomobile, techcrunch, gizmodo, etc mention about the homescreen thing and also other financial website articles are mentioning same thing. They are spoiling Nokia’s party, and Nokia must act fast to remove this perception. Pls. pass on this message to them

    • September 16, 2010 at 4:31 pm

Most likely no S^4, but you’ll have major software updates and equally compatible apps.

    • September 16, 2010 at 4:32 pm

      Oh there’s a few more hot n8s. 😀

  10. September 15, 2010 at 4:58 am

    Does N8 have CBD???

Why no autofocus in C6-01 and E7??

Will N8 be upgradeable to S^4 along with all the S^3 devices?

    • September 15, 2010 at 8:23 am

      “Does N8 have CBD???”

jay me too i need to know it..ask it..

      • September 15, 2010 at 11:25 am

I think N8 is standard AMOLED. Will test in bright sunlight after this technical stream i am in.

btw, Clear Black Display is stunning outdoors. Have media to upload later and share with you guys.

No Upgrade for me this year, not very empressed by these two devices. Wait for n9, am currently nokia n97mini user, nokia may add new feature in n97 firmware update

  12. September 15, 2010 at 9:23 am

Where are the meego phones and all Qt. apps for symbian and meego. I bet there isn’t CBD on the N8 or they would have been crowing about it for the last 6 months.

    • September 15, 2010 at 8:49 pm

N8 no CBD, C7 no CBD but it has polarized filter that improves sunlight visibility. CBD better.

Most unlikely that Symbian^3 will be upgraded to Symbian^4. The problem lies with nokia, not so much symbian.

There was mention that S^4 would require much more RAM which S^3 – they’d have inadequate amounts.
