Nokia N8 Symbian 3 Overview

I came across this interesting video of the Symbian 3 interface being shown off. I have noticed something in all those UI overview video also, the little nugget is that if you tap any button on the interface too quick it doesn’t register, now you might call that a bug or something but my iPod touch does the same thing Apple actually made it a feature when the original iPhone launched so there you go, that particular feature or bug whatever you call it happens in this video a lot.

Web TV gets shown off as well which is neat as we haven’t seen that much off it although it does get s system error 😦 but we are told its a pre production error and there some bugs in the software apart from that its the same usual, although worth checking out though.

BTW I had a quick chat with the guys at Rovio Mobile on twitter the guys of the brilliant game “Angry Birds” and I asked them when Angry birds is coming for devices other than N900’s and they replied saying once Symbian 3 devices are like the N8 and other then it will be released all good then 😀

Yes, yes, that must be it, despite N8 showing Flash video perfectly many times before. Yes you must be right…

The N8 looks great. The UI, fonts and amoled screen make a good first impression. I am starting to dig the widget homescreen.

“angry birds” you said… Its the best game between all games i have in my iphone… i enjoy angry birds more than any other game like Splinter cell conviction, avatar, princ of persia, assassins creed, NFS shift, Asphalt 5, metal gear solid, modern combat, ray man 2 and alot alot of games……. i hope nokia n8 will get all these games too..))

I think, the user here was more casual in using the phone, hence not registering the taps properly or may be he is used to some other phones, who are more sensitive than N8.
But i think, Nokia has done this purposely, i.e it is a feature and not a bug. Why?
So that you any slight accidental slight touch doesn’t get registered as an input,(even though it is cap. screen), but you have to touch little prominently to register the input vs. an accidental input.
It makes sense to me. Question is whether others think like Nokia or not and how the online blogs manipulate people’s mind by their reviews and short-sighted comments.

Hary: It makes sense to me too. Nice to see that some people still use their brain in this part of the universe, it’s rare at these bloggy days. 🙂
It would be interesting if they programmed a phone that reacted on the slightest touch and let people try it out. Now that would be pure education. 😀
In my opinion too many people have tools to communicate nowadays.

Ya, but this is still our speculation. If Nokia really has designed it like that, then i think they should
educate people on that with some good videos on how to use the touchscreen and what to expect and what not to expect. If i was Nokia, i would do it asap before bloggers/others get a hand to the phone and start bashing this.

or maybe its in the settings so you can adjust the time it takes to register (if it is a feature)

I don’t think there should be so many settings required. Yes, there might be sensitivity settings like in current S60v5, but i would not have any settings to set time it takes to register. I am confident, Nokia would not do such a mistake.

I’m optimistic about this product,I have a feeling that it will be a good phone, one to remember.

I just watched the video. Jesus christ, what’s up with this dude and his unsure wiggling with the thumb?? Can’t people see that sometimes he’s intention is not even to scroll the screen? He just wiggles his thumb because his unsure or he got somekind of cramp. =)) Just watch the video again and follow his thumb movement.

He just doesn’t seem like a very experienced touchscreen user, he’s so careful with the touching so I understand that the phone won’t react. I get the same effect with my htc hero sometimes when I use it but then I realise it was my own fault for beeing too uncertain with the push.

That’s great! Can’t wait for them to announce multi-touch for keyboard typing. Also hopefully we’ll able to get custom 3rd party keyboards on the market. Not that i don’t like the original one but it would be nice to have a variety of keyboards to choose from =)
