Two interesting how to’s on the Nokia N8

Two interesting videos have appeared from youtube demonstrating some of the N8’s capabilities

First up how to edit photos on the N8

Second how to use the N8’s web browser

Thanks to Chandru for the heads up

Folks, hope you heard what they said in the 2nd video, for all you doubters and whingers! A little reminder:

1.) Touchscreen is equal to iPhone and better than most Androids they’ve used

2.) Browser is “really nice” (note: not crap, like some would have you believe)

3.) Browser way better than Opera Mini (not difficult on this class of phone).

I agree the first video was laggy. I have seen other demos where the picture editing was not laggy so I don’t know what to make of this. The menus all seemed to have the same lag, so maybe it was a frame rate problem in the firmware. The menu did show 5 apps open including the video editor.

You’re missing the point about the lag.

Yes, the tool bar on the picture editor is laggy. First of all, this is not the firmware or the OS or the UI we’re talking about. That’s super fast already, as we’ve all seen in this and other videos.

What we’re talking about here is a bit of lag on one part of the UI on one 3rd party app that ships with the N8. That’s it. No big deal!

Secondly, the app itself wasn’t laggy as a whole – operations she selected completed really quickly.

Secondly, why do people complain about lag in the first place? Because it stops them working at the speed they want to. But this lady was zooming along, with the app and the phone allowing her to achieve her objectives at the full speed she wanted to.

Yes, hopefully it is fixed, but it’s really not much of a big deal if it’s not, and certainly not representative of the UI, Symbian^3, the firmware, or other apps.

yeah i couldnt tell if it was video lag first or the phone was laggy

but then i noticed the N8s menus and pop-ups transitions were smooth it was just commands of the App itself that started becoming slightly laggy (granted she was telling it to do a lot also)

So im confident that the phone is fine and that app in particular is passable and would likely get a tweaking update soon (maybe by launch?)

I have never seen any phone not laggy, not even the 1Ghz crop, especially when you have lots of apps running in background. I have an iphone 4 and a htc desire, and i’ve tested a galaxy s and all have lagged many times at points of use.

    So no one is perfect.

      Totally agree!

So far, I am very satisfied with N8 performance, even without the final firmware and software.

People should always remember even the highest hardware configuration (cpu/ram etc) can not endure high performance when it is used with heavy load.
