Important thing for everyone to remember: with any camera it’s not the average or crap shots that show what the camera’s like – you can take the best cameras in the world and take rubbish pictures with them – it’s the great shots that show good the camera can be (and remember, everyone’s using the same hardware and interface so everyone can achieve great shots without TOO much effort). This image:

taken in Kew Gardens with earlier firmware, is the benchmark photo for the N8 so far for me (and also the one with the chips/fries in closeup, on this blog).

They show a quality you will simply never see anywhere even close to with any other camera phone on the market, or many dedicated digital cameras.

I think as the N82 was until now, the N8’s camera will be the best by some way for several years – it’s not just about the pixel count, it’s about the huge amount of work that went into the algorithms, firmware, tweaks and so on, that other cameras will never replicate. That alone is enough for me to buy the N8.

    Stunning!
I mean, look at the detail in these pics! Especially the 6th pic. You can see those tiny white filaments on the flower/plant. It REALLY clear!

speaking of pictures. have you seen this app from nokia beta labs: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-photo-browser

I think is one of the coolest apps from nokia and for some reason the R&D somehow postpone the development. AT least that’s why they said on the forum.

Anyway watch the video, you won’t be sorry.

You are right, it’s very good app. I also have been wondering, why they haven’t finished development and released. But i am guessing, that the only reason that makes sense is that someone has a patent on the UI, especially the magnifying lens thing, due to which Nokia are not pursuing it at the moment. I am sure Nokia will come up with something else in future, if they don’t want to bow in front of other patent holders.

Definitely! Nokia has had patent agreements for WCDMA, XERO and flash etc that are standard tech that Nokia can’t avoid or invent its own solultion.

yes but WCDMA are standards so in a way the inventors are forced to sell their technology to others, so they can avoid monopole.

yea. probably you’re right and design patents are for 14 year until they become obsolete and can be copied by anyone. I think everyone will patent every tiny thing so they can have some advantage.

sigh patents really get in the way of innovation.. the tech world should be like the fashion world where the only thing that’s protected is the brand logo

play overcharges… even when amazon.de (before they removed it the first time) had it for almost 200€ less play still kept their price high
