Nokia N8 on pre-order in Germany

The Nokia N8 is now in pre-order in Germany! Get them pre-orders in while they are hot. Apparently the price in Germany for the N8 will be €479. Remember the initial €370 price was before takes and the other boring bits. The N8 is also available for pre-order in France for €459, so according to unwiredview you will not be able to get the N8 for under €400 in Europe which is a shame.

It is a shame that the N8 is rather expensive as we get towards the launch I can remember when it was first announced people raved about the price now it seems rather large especially as this is a high-end in the mid end smarthphone market and not one of the “superphone” breed…….

Anyway what do think about the price???

BYW- Now Nokia where is the UK pre-order please ???

GUYS, it’s obvious that companies will try and make extra money off early adopters who pre-order. This is not Nokia pricing, and it’s not the normal pricing for the N8.

The N8 will be as cheap as they said it would be, if you look around (e.g. online) once it’s been released. And even cheaper on contract 🙂

In Spain is in pre-order too (www.nokia.es) for €469.

The VAT in Spain is 18%, so €370 X 18% are €436.60, is €34 more expensive that announced in may.

yes but there is also transportation and I think there are some additional taxes something like green (environment ) tax in UE. I think the price is right.
Also I think they are selling the phones through their shop more expensive, so third party shops can sell them on lower prices. at least in my country this is how it happens.

The price is not high. Remember that N97 costed €650 at launch. And this is better than the N97 from all aspects, except the qwerty keyboard.

Oh yes the qwerty version will come although it will be a business centric version called the E7 sort of confirmed when the Eseries devision was interviewed on nokia’s official blog

Have you visited Ovi store recently? I visit there everyday. I can see new app for N8 downloading has been increasing everyday from N8 ovi client.

I believe the price is worth the quality of the product and service as a whole package.

Yes, likely this is the one, N8 qwerty version.

Apparently, it is the same on at Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp2yS93i8gs. But it is not N9. N9 will be a Meego device, with different hardware profile. It uses Intel Atom chip.

Later I may have chance to touch N9…

Nokia N8’s availability in UK is from 28/8/2010. This sounds reasonable and likely to me, to my source.

In Finland it is even more expensive, over 500 euro.

IPHONE 4 is nearly 900euro from operator Telia-Sonera!

    August 10, 2010 at 10:48 pm

I hope it is cheaper in the US, closer to the €370 price. If it is in the $600+ range it is a no for me. The Droid X, Evo, Galaxy S are all sub $500. I can’t justify paying that much for a mid-range handset that doesn’t have symbian^4 or meego.

    • Andre
      August 10, 2010 at 11:20 pm

It’s likely to translate into about 450 US when all is said and done me thinks.
The 5800 was around 300 euro when it got released right?
I got mine (pre-order) for around 387US including shipping and taxes.
The prices that everyone is quoting here probably include taxes etc.

        August 11, 2010 at 1:17 am

If I was a betting man, my money would be on the N8 coming in at $349-$399 US from retailers like Amazon/Newegg/Dell after its released.

I’m waiting for N8 for 2 moths, I even sell my N97 mini (shitty one). I was in heaven when nokia said the N8 will cos 370 euro. But i was fucking mistake! Again everything its most expensive in fucking poland!

    I hate this country!
Anybody wants to adopt a polish man?

PS. Why i must waiting so long for N8! I cant wait! Thousands of demos/previews/hands-on videos make mi sick! I want it NOW!

  12. What the...
    August 11, 2010 at 1:11 am

Actually the pricing of the N8 could had been more competitive due to the lower labor cost and material cost. I mean, how much does it cost to get a 760Mhz processor chip and underclock it to 680Mhz? How much is it for a 256RAM chip? The overall cost is not really high. If nokia really wanted to win back the heart of consumers, they should not think too much of profit but volume of sales and trust of consumers. With the pricing shooting over 400 euro, a lot of customers will definitely get disappointed seeing how Nokia announced the handset will be around 370 euro before taxes and subsidies.

From here we can see the collateral damage done by spreading words which are yet to be proven true. I was also deeply disappointed when the actual pricing show up on the net. It means I have to fork out at least 430 euro just to get this handset while I can get a ‘superphone’ for 350 euro. That’s 80 euro difference. Come on Nokia, what are you thinking? Worse still, to make consumers wait for so long? Really chaotic.

        August 11, 2010 at 5:12 am

He’s prolly talkin about the Samsung Galaxy S devices (If im not mistaken)

And if it is a “superphone,” Why is the build quality SO cheap? And the camera not so nice? It sacrifices many things UNLIKE N8. and the 430 Euros are WITH tax (tax/VAT is high in Europe). and galaxy S (as far as I know) is about $399 without tax and stuff. SO thats about the same price except that N8 has more features and MUCH better quality of hardware. And I dont think I need to say anything about the camera…………………….

        • Andre
          August 11, 2010 at 6:17 am

Actually the galaxy S goes for 499 Minimum with no taxes

Some prices from Austria/Germany: Galaxy S is 439,- vs. 448,- for the N8 (both via amazon)…
So depending on personal preferences either of them can be the better solution…

true Australia might not have many Nokia enthusiasts which is why there would be a delayed release here but India definitely has lots of enthusiasts and loyal supporters. Also, Nokia India said in a tweet (how reliable) that they would be releasing the N8 on September 1st in India 🙂

In the comments above alex68 says that the nokia n9 will have an atom processor but on engadget i read that nokia’s meego flavor will be ARM based and nokia does not plan to switch to the x86 platform for its upcoming meego device.

    • alex68
      August 11, 2010 at 3:50 pm

Nokia is not going to use ARM for Meego devices for sure, except the released N900 promised Meego support which used ARM chip.

Engadget is totally wrong. And most media from North American has lost creditability in Nokia product info source as they focus all the spotlights on Iphone and Android. Soon they will find they thought USA was the center of the universe but actually it is not!

Meego is the alliance of Nokia and Intel for Intel Atom processor Moorestown. See wiki page for reference at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MeeGo and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorestown_(computing_platform)

        August 11, 2010 at 4:51 pm

To be fair, Moorestown isn’t ready for smart phones yet. When it shrinks, next year, it should be good to go.

          August 11, 2010 at 5:40 pm

Why do you think so? Is your source from North America or experience of n8 release delay?

Meego will be officially released in Oct. Soon after that Meego enabled products such as devices and tablets will be available. According to my personal source, n9 development already in integration phase. Because of QT, N8 and N9 share a large part of codebase. After the first QT enabled smartphone is ready, I expect Nokia will accelerate the releases of new highend product.

BTW, a meego enabled smartphone is already released by one Finnish startup firm- called AAvar mobile maybe. You can use meego to check it at Youtube.

I believe I read it on a few tech sites when Moorestown was unveiled, presumably they are all North American. Intel is an American company BTW.

I understand your anger, dude… However, every dark cloud has a silver lining. NA blogers are some times right. And no, US is not the central of the universe, which is a fact just like that the US is leading in many areas of technology.

I think Intel are hoping that Nokia will adopt their chips at a later date. Why partner up with Nokia the Worlds largest mobile phone maker when you are struggling against Qualcomm in the mobile, thats the reason makes sense, don’t know if it will happen though

        • alex68
          August 11, 2010 at 8:39 pm

No no, to my knowledge, cpu wise, TXN is the key supplier for Nokia. Nokia has settled the patent dispute with Qualcomm regarding WCDMA.

It is not just Intel’s hope. Meego on Intel’s Atom processor performs much much better than Maemo on TXN’s ARM chips, which fits better Nokia high-end products. One example is
Meego boots on Atom processor extremely fast. I don’t remember where I read it.

Remember Nokia also has a cool netbook. I think that one will also go to Intel Atom processor.

Meego deviced will be really expensive. I expect the price easily goes above 700 euro…

          August 11, 2010 at 8:47 pm

Moorestown isn’t QUITE ready for mobile devices just yet. That’s coming from a lot of people. I think Nokia will adopt them towards the end of 2011

Well anand from anandtech, someone I’d be inclined to believe said the same thing about Moorestown being used in 2011. I think the main reason being the architecture in use with Mooretown and the size of the devices due to the chip size.

      August 11, 2010 at 10:29 pm

Ok, Intel® Atom™ processor Z6xx Series Family was available in May already. The integration of N9 already started in summer. I believe Nokia should have Z6XX prototype for the development before Intel official release. The official announcement of Meego project was end of 2009. Nokia should have done a lot of work already till now.

      • Andre
        August 11, 2010 at 11:16 pm

It takes nearly a year for a new chip to make it into any sort of product.
Case in point. OMAP 3 and Cortex A8 processors have been available since 2006 IIRC. They’ve been only mainstream from 2009 onwards, starting with the iPhone 3GS.
The 45nm chips based on OMAP 3 like the 36xx series were announced in 2008 and right now there is only one device using it the Droid X. In both cases we’re seeing a 2-3 year discrepancy between a processor being announced and it being productized.

It’s a similar case with snapdragon which IIRC was available since 2007 but didn’t make it into devices properly until late 2009/early 2010.

That should be indicative of when we can expect to see the z600 series processors in devices.
Even if we saw z600 devices, I think the performance/watt ratio for A9 processors is still superior. We probably won’t see Intel based devices for a while yet.

        • alex68
          August 12, 2010 at 8:51 am

          You are right…

In this case, I believe ARM chip will be still used for early Meego phones. Nokia already provided Meego image for N900. Of course, it is not officially supported already.

I also heard rumor that Meego will use Cortex.

          • Andre

Only naive or stupid people thought it would cost 100€ less than the competition. 370 plus VAT makes about 440 in most countries, so that was to be expected. And no, I dont’t think it will drop soon, look at the competition, look at the N900.
