Open screen project
This is a very cool project where YOU guys can get money to turn an app idea into a reality and get it distributed using the Ovi App store
An app called Twittle funded by the Open Screen Project very impressive indeed
It seems like Nokia are really stepping up their game with the App front encouraging developers to get on board makes sense as developers for the iOS and Android devices will not be able to make money there for ever they will have to come over and develop for Nokia too to make a good living. I am guessing there will also be a large number of apps being launched around the time the N8 launches.
Now I need to get my lazy behind to learn Qt already, I have the SDK donwloaded now need some motivation 🙂

Wordpress Blogging on the Nokia N900
If you're reading this, then this demonstrate the N900 can use the native wordpress.com site for blogging. No app download, just raw wordpress pretty much how it would appear on your desktop....albeit within the confines of a 800x480 pixel wide screen. Note screenshot below is zoomed.

I’m in the same boat John, installed the Qt SDK the other night. Need to learn C++ and how to use the SDK, I have a few app ideas, just not sure if Qt can handle them. Think I would have to use native Symbian, from the little I have read. 😦
what would you want to do?
Make a couple things, one of which is a virtual keyboard. I know, I know..stupid, silly, not important, whatever – I have one in mind, that I would like to try doing.
Is that something Qt could properly handle enough to be fully integrated into Maemo/S^3 or would Symbian be better for S^3 and something else for Maemo?
I hate being keen enough to know I have to ask these questions and not really being able to answer them myself without a LOT of time and energy spent. I don’t mind learning or expanding effort, but damn..some of this stuff you don’t find out about until you are 80% done and THEN find out it should have been done *this* way. LOL
You’d have to find out whether there’s an API for input. Albeit I doubt that API is available for Qt. YET
to build a virtual keyboard you have to use system specific libraries. In you case you probably need to use symbian C++ , but if you want my advice wait unti S4 or meego is out then OS UI is probably written in Qt and you can change it more easily.
I don’t mind taking the time building it now as it is great experience and I have a lot to learn. But yeah, when I want it to be the “final” thing this is the kind of information I really need so what I want to do now, is 100% useless! Thanks 🙂
or you can build an application that can use your virtual keyboard instead of the standard one. this can be done in qt and it’s not so hard, depending how advanced the keyboard needs to be.
Hrm..good idea. But then I need to think up an application too and make that? LOL – Will lose my ambition if I start thinking that! I wouldn’t even know where to begin in trying to come up with an application idea!
Yeah apparently if you want to go deeper into Symbian you need to do it natively but I guess if go into the Qt SDK and enjoy it then why not still think the developer tools are getting better though definitely on par with the competition.

We are not developers ourself unfortunately 😦 I have only started looking at the Qt SDK now, I figured there is not point in complaining about the quality and number of apps on the ovi store and thought we have to do something ourselves and thats why. We have already said if people have tutorials or video’s we will put them up on the blog that’s no problem I am keen to learn myself 🙂
Some of top popular games in Apple app store are made by Finnish firms such as Angry birds. Now they are coming back to Nokia. From Meego membership page, I can see finnish membership grows quite fast.
