Video: New N8 hands-on

Here’s another Nokia N8 hands-on video. This time the N8 appeared in Switzerland.

The N8 looks fluid. It looks like this one has plenty of music albums and still no lag. The photos took a bit longer to load (two to three seconds). Once it loaded, going into folders was fine and took a second to load all the pictures. The pinch to zoom works fine. A few seconds later the video folder appeared randomly which I suppose wasn’t expected.

But anyways this is only a prototype, there are still weeks until final (retail) product.

Update: Translated by skills : ”We listened to our customers, we improved the speed added pinch zooming and so on. The device will appear on the market in fall. The cowerflow runs at 60 fps.”

(or maybe even important?)

Thank you skills! Yes, it’s good that the coverflow runs at 60FPS,the more FPS the better it is(more fluid too).

The more videos I watch videos of the N8 the more I am getting impressed I am starting to think people will be relatively surprised by the N8

    • July 14, 2010 at 1:02 pm

They should be surprised, I mean that’s the goal. The N8 has a bunch of multimedia features and some are unique. And most important quality/price is amazing. I don’t think anyone can beat that yet. I just wish it had meego, but I guess it won’t happen.

Everyone wishes it had Meego but if this phone is as solid as it will be I will have no doubt that the waiting for meego will be worth it

There will be a ‘cheap’ version of the N8 WITHOUT a 12 megapixel camera and less memory retail about 230-250 EUR (talk about cheap) according to Eldar Murtazin

I did a post on some interesting comments from Nokia’s “favourite” Nokia person enjoy 🙂

n8 is a good OR GREAT device but there are few apps available for symbian and little or never updated, (will never see on symbian-touch new console emulator, divx player, skyfire2 and etc..etc..) little and big developers wants only develop for google/apple and not for symbian that’s the cruel true

THIS IS THE VERY CANCER OF SYMBIAN

      July 14, 2010 at 3:41 pm

well its a chicken and egg thing developers want to see a capable device that sells a ton and for them to develop for Symbian, and Nokia want to see good apps from developers to be able to lure customers from their rivals by advertising them.

        so? i don’t see a solution on your comment…

maybe there’s not a solution for the symbian case

          July 14, 2010 at 6:18 pm

Maybe Symbian will just fade away I mean not everything stays alive forever, it is a new era for a new type of internet enabled devices and Symbian was’t built with that in mind just look at the browser. Meego was built with that in mind with the early Nokia internet devices but people didn’t understand the value of having internet everywhere like we have now

i was at the presentation myself. n8 supports divx/xvid!!!
even with a n900 connected over USB OTG was no problem to play the files directly from n900.

Now all we need for this phone is a dock like the new droid X. This would be my dream HT setup for the N8.

3 part video – nokia meeting zürich

i thought i translate some important things again from those 3 vids.
he said that divx/xvid is possible to play. he said that the only limit is: fat32 formatting, that means a movie cant be bigger than 4 gb (i hope understood it right) pinch zooming doesnt work in hdmi modus, the pictures shown are taken without xenon flash. pinchzooming does work in camera modus! awesome! the thumb of multi tasking isnt live, it takes a printscreen of the last activity in this app, still awesome! 😀

it should play ALL divx xvid. pinchzomm works always but you cant see it on hdmi. if you have questions on n8/symbian 3, ask me

The lost E7 or whatever prototype that was and the announcement of MeeGo/Symbian^4 devices has really made me think IF I should buy the N8. But after thinking quite a lot, Ive come to a conclusion according to which I will buy the N8. Mainly because I want a multimedia beast. I dont think other MeeGo or Sym^4 will have such a camera unless they make an N-series device with the camera in mind. But since the N86, there has been no other Nokia phone with such good camera. N8 is the first one. so its possible that it will rule the multimedia part for at least a year or 2. whichi is why Im gonna buy it. Of course S^4 upgrade would be nice but if they dont offer that, I still have so much with me. N8 ROCKS!

sound of divx doesnt play nice at the moment (depends on settings the video was ripped) but its only a small adjustment of the codec/player. video lay back is perfect. tried several files
