Video: Nokia “N9” RM-626 Software Tour, Remotely wiped during recording

The Symbian Experts over at TechnoBuffalo have another video of the Symbian^3 powered (not S60 -_-) Nokia E7 (or N9, N8-02 whatever you want to call it.

Skip the slideshow of puppies (yes) and head straight over to 00:43

  • “we’re looking at a very high res screen, Nokia’s nHD”. If he knew what nHD was, maybe he wouldn’t call it high res. Unless of course, this is not actually nHD (but S^3 supposedly supports max nHD. hmmm. Wouldn’t nHD look blocky on 4″?)
  • “as soon as we started interacting with it, we realised that this is definitely a prototype device” oh, not the big fat “PROTO “written on the back then?
  • 4″ capacitive multitouch enabled screen
  • landscape virtual keyboard looks huge (for Symbian).
  • Check out that spring loaded flick-tilt slide. Awesome!
  • Check out the phone being remotely wiped whilst the camera UI is initiated. RM-626 possibly killing itself after thinking “will you stop scathing me, I am a frikkin Proto, stop acting like you just bought me off the shelf. That’s it, I’m going suicidal.”

Jon seemed to skip over the prototype thing when he picked up the phone.

There is NO WAY IN HELL that that screen is 640*480, the aspect ratio on the screen is off when compared to the N8 alphanumeric keyboard for example. And it’s way too sharp to be that low res at that size :-S
Rettinger can’t possibly know what nHD is 😐
        And remote wipe FTW

        • July 2, 2010 at 11:01 pm

The screen res is confusing if S^3 supports max nHD, but this cannot be high res if nHD on 4″. It’s already not high res on 3.5″ (though at the time, much more than backward iPhone)

          – uh, maybe overly annoyed with the footy results rather than with this video haha.

Nokia said N8 will be ‘only’ symbian^3 device on Nseries.
Judging from the video, It has clearly bigger screen res than nHD, So if symbian^3 supports bigger res than why the hell on earth N8 has only nHD resolution.?
The design has also very much similarty with N8.
By concluding above point I think prototype device is probably first symbian^4 device on N series because I dont think Nokia will make 4″ screen size phone on non N series (may E series).

I’d bet it’s an E-series and using a custom build of S^3. I honestly think S^3 devices will get S^4 too

as usually for nokia, browser crashed out at mins 4:18 and back to home…..out of memory persist to N9 and N8 too so…256mb as eldar from mobilereview say are INSUFFICIENT

It’s a prototype, one so early it doesn’t even have a model number. For it to work and be faultless would be nothing short of a miracle.
An easy thing to show how early a prototype (in hardware and in software) is that it only has dual homescreens and not the three that S^3 has.

i don’t agree browser is the same version 7.2 of the old S1 so it’ll crash out always same as them..you must not hope in a final firmware release will resolve this problem…

your wrong as proper prototype verisons of symbian 3 , have been using an updated browser thats alot better.

Also you know you can get 3rd party browser too

Regarding the bad things said about Symbian:

This is exactly what you will get.

Think back about Nokia’s trackrecord relating to software: it’s bad but before that it’s late.

Base possible purchase decisions on these first videos; this is what you will get.

I think that’s unfair. The N97 was shambolic but by no means representative of every device they’ve released.
If you saw the pre-release software for most android phones you’d be saying wore things about those manufacturers than anything you could possibly say abt nokia.
The browser won’t crash as much but it’ll suck until version 8.0(based on Qt) is released.

very good point there its rare that a phone looks any good during its development stage we will not know until the N8 comes how good it really is Anssi has already said we will be shocked by the power of the N8 when it comes out

Its unfair to base Symbian 3 on this video alone, I have seen videos on where Symbian performed much better, one thing is for sure the Hardware is AMAZING !!!!! 🙂

The remote kill was funny assuming that’s what it was.

As has been mentioned, it’s a pre-alpha prototype so can’t really draw any conclusions other than the hardware looks nice.

Of course that won’t stop Eldar reviewing it though! 😉

Where are all these “leaked” prototypes coming from? I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one or three! 😉

yes you’re right it is a load of balloney, but the public will swallow this load of nonsense

So if you hold your iphone 4 the wrong way it drops two to three bars, so if the bars are showing 2 more than they should, this surely makes the situation even worse? Your phone is now displaying 2 bars, when it used to be 4, cover the black strip and it drops 2 bars meaning you now more»have no signal, whereas before you could (if you were lucky) have 2. i work right next to an orange cell, and i can stand underneath it and get the signal to drop right down to 1 bar, so this malarky is clearly a load of old baloney
