Video: Another demo of MeeGo on the Nokia N900 (+Install your own)

This morning we saw the N900 running MeeGo but it was a touch blurry and short on the demo.

HDblog‘s uploaded a video on youtube (though in Italian) you can see MeeGo a little bit clearer. It’s in 720p HD but there’s nothing to be gained as the phone is too far from the camera. This demo does show a little more than the first video:

  • Initial Boot
  • The (empty) picture gallery
  • A floating window on the screen (what is that?)

Note that this is of course a Pre-Alpha version just to show how things work. Speed/performance/smoothness all comes later.

Also note that this is the “Day 1” stuff so things will get better.

If you want to check out MeeGo on your N900, Siraj from Maemo Arena has posted FatalSaint (of MeeGo Forum) instructions HERE.

The floating window is a card in the multitasker. T

There’s btw absolutely nothing that works at the moment and it’s not very smooth due to lack of GPU accelaration (I think).

Does the homescreen have widget and icons , loopable wallpaper like that on maemo?

How can we do to bring out the multiple open applications?

The “homescreen” that people are complaining about is nothing more than the app launcher.
MeeGo has a widget space supposedly (not shown in this video) that can be called up at any time. Check the ”pears and bananas’ UI document.

I dont know but what i saw from the video it looks like iphone with different theme. I mean it has little 5 fixed icons and when go into menu you sweep them just like iphone. It doesnt look new to me. Well its still in alpha test. Things will change

Nokia will supposedly add their own Maemo UI to MeeGo.
One of Eldar’s tweets stated that the UI on Nokia’s MeeGo devices looked markedly different and better than what we see here.

I think we and they have run out of new ui ideas! They need to make it simple to mass market
