Fight: Nokia N8 vs Samsung i8910 vs iPhone 4 vs Sony Ericsson Satio vs HTC Desire

N8 against the other Symbian giants

Steve Litchfield pits the Nokia N8 against another bunch of smartphone elites. Similar to engadget’s findings, the N8 comes out on top.

  1. 7 pts – Nokia N8
  2. 4 pts – Apple iPhone 4
  3. 3 pts – HTC Desire
  4. 2 pts – Samsung i8910 HD
  5. 0 pts – Sony Ericsson Satio

Head over to see Steve’s parameters. Do you agree with Steve? Is he too generous with N8 or is it deservedly winning on paper?

well I never like apple but I have to admit even if ios4 is limited in certain areas, it runs smooth and the ui looks very good. you will found that people want from their phones to be simple and looking good so they can show friends what cool phone they have.

on Speed, multitasking, processor I think iphone 4 has a better cpu .

EVen if N8 has more features than iphone 4, Iphone leads on the important things( from the vision of the people) : good looking UI , and high resolution( better for browsing, reading pdf..). The bad thing about iphone and the good thing about N8 is that I have can copy file from usb drive

N8 is much faster that iPhone. Look at the benchmarks. The processor speed is irrelevant. N8 has a GPU also. And the OS (Symbian) is much more well-coded and resource effective that iOS. iOS is MacOSX at the core, just adapted for phones, while Symbian was built for phones from scratch. So it can perform much better with a lower CPU, which means better battery life too.

There is not a single domain where iPhone outperforms N8. N8 has 12MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics and the biggest sensor found on a phone, Xenon flash, 720p video recording, stereo recording, 720p video output and dolby surround (5.1) sound through HDMI, anodised aluminium body, USB OTG (you can plug a USB stick or another phone, and see all the files it contains like you could do with a computer), video-call through 3G with any phone (not just with iPhones4, and only on WiFi). It also has a brand new and very powerful OS, Symbian^3, with widgets on the homescreen, 3 different homescreens, real multitasking etc. At the same time, iPhone4 has the same old iPhoneOS of 2007 (which was renamed to iOS4, to fool people it is new), where you can only put icons on the homescreen, you don’t have real multitasking (but only 7 Apple services that run in the background and can be used by the apps), not even themes (but you have wallpapers, at last in 2010!!)

I have just sent my N8 back after two days. Keeps locking up. Very few OVI products of value. OVI maps useless, does only about 30 mile radius in searches for addresses. Also seems a bit deaf on signal strength.

My Son has the HTC Desire, thats for me and I can get Co-Pilot for it.
